Abortion

Abortion is among the contentious issues since it has divided people along the lines of

pro-life and pro-choice decisions. People's stance on abortion relies on both legal and ethical

perspectives. While abortion refers to the termination of a fetus, some people argue that it should

be considered as murder. Pro-life activists insist that the perpetrators should be punished for

ending the life of a fetus without its consent. However, the proponents of abortion insist that the

parents have the right to make decisions that affect their lives, including terminating a

pregnancy. Besides, a fetus has not achieved the age of making consent. This proposal aims to

present the insights of the pro-life arguments on abortion. Although there are health benefits

associated with abortion, the act should not be legal since it violates the parents' moral

obligations to the unborn child, denies a fetus the right of life, and overlooks God's

commandment that forbids murder.

Parents have the moral obligation to a foetus including protecting them from any harm.

Due to their immaturity, children expect their parents to protect them from danger (Birchley,

2016). Abortion is a painful process since it involves taking a person's life. Some people may

argue that foetus do not have fully developed bodily structures; hence, they are incapable of

feeling. However, this perspective is misleading since abortion involves an unnatural stoppage of

bodily functions and thus, it is a painful process. Parents should be at the forefront protecting

children from such harms. Abortion is a painful process that parents should avoid from taking

place at all costs.

Abortion denies the unborn child the right to life. Human beings have the right to life,

and one is only allowed to kill another individual in self-defence (Rodger et al., 2018).

Regardless of the age, a foetus is a person. Thus, their right to life should be respected. The US
3

Constitution insists that every citizen has the right to life, liberty, and autonomy. By killing a

foetus, the parents take away this right. Abortion is a violation of the legal guidelines put in place

to promote people's right to life.

Abortion also disregards God's commandment concerning the sacredness of life. The

Fifth Commandment in the Bible states that people should not kill (Exodus 20:13). The Bible

does not provide differences between a baby and a fetus. Once conception takes place, a fetus is

considered as a fully developed person. In Jeremiah 1:5, God states that one is considered a

person once the process of conception starts in the womb. Thus, abortion violates God’s will that

guides the American spirit. Abortion should not be legalized since it destroys an innocent life

against God's wish.

Abortion should not be legalized since it involves ending the life of an innocent being

without their consent. Parents have a moral obligation to reject the idea of abortion since it harms

their child. Besides, abortion can be considered as murder, and the persons involved should be

punished for committing this heinous act. Since most Americans are Christians, they ought to

observe God's commandments. One of them forbids murder, and abortion falls under this

category. When making arguments against abortion, pro-life activists should use these points to

when making their case.
