Types of Community Interactions

COMPETITION

There is a limited amount of natural resources in

our planet. This is a factor or problem revolving around not
having enough for all living things which results in these
organisms fighting for resources to survive. An example
would be of how species in deserts compete over the
scarcity of water in their habitat.

PREDATION

This relationship occurs between a predator and a prey.

In order for the survival of the predator it has to kill or eat its prey.
Predators are always the one in higher trophic levels than their
prey. Preys are usually primary consumers while predators are
secondary consumers or above.

SYMBIOSIS

This relationship involves two different individual species

that show a close association with each other. This relationship can
either be both beneficial to each other, or only to one of the
species, or it can be where a species harms the other species whom
they are benefitting from. This can be further understood by the
following categories:

Parasitism

- Specie A benefits
from the relationship
while specie B is
harmed.

Commensalism

- Specie A benefits
from the relationship
while specie B is
unaffected by this.

relationship.
