Connectors: expressing cause and effect

To express the cause of or the reason for something, we can use the connectors "because",
"as" and "since". They are followed by a clause and when they go at the beginning of a
sentence, they must be separated by a comma:

I didn't write you a letter as / because / since I was very busy.

As / Because / Since I was very busy, I didn’t write you a letter.

Note: To express cause we can also use “because of” / “due to” + noun or verb + -ing.
Compare:

As / Because / Since + Clause

She was late because there was a lot of traffic.

Because of / Due to + Noun

She was late because of the traffic.
