Rhythm 1. A measured motion or flow, characterized basically by the

Pitch 2. Refers to the lowness and highness of a tone.

Bar 3. A vertical line across a staff dividing it into equal measures of time.

Intensity 4. The quality of movement or music. It refers to dynamics or force


such as heavy or light.

Under Lying Beat 5. The steady continuous sound that is heard or felt throughout
any rhythmical sequence.

Measure 6. This refers to the identical grouping of under lying beats.

Tempo 7. The rate of speed of the movement, music or accompaniment.

Meter 8. Refers to the manner in which the beats are put together to form a
measure of music.

Musical Phrase 9. A group of measures that gives the feeling or unity.

__Accent 10. The force or emphasis given to any one beat in a series of pulse
beats in a measure.

Rhythm and rhythms

_Rhythm is the repeated pattern of beats with and without accents. In its most
basic form, rhythm refers to paying attention to the music that is playing as you
dance and moving in time with it. On the other hand, the term "rhythms"
refers to a characteristic of movement that is occasionally referred to as
dancing. We refer to a person's movements as rhythmic movements or rhythms
when they are made in response to a particular rhythm or piece of music.
Rhythms are ordered patterns that initiate original rhythmic motions.
