University of San Carlos and University of the Philippines are the two principal
institutions taking part in the ANC Square Off debate that I have viewed. In my own words, the
rules are that the debate must be in an Oregon-Oxford debate format, the 2 sides must be
affirmative and negative, there must be only 3 debaters per side, and one debater per side must
argue about the necessity, benefits, and practicability of a proposition. Each debater is given 4
minutes to deliver a constructive speech and rebuttal. Each debater is given 2 minutes to
interpolate the opposing debater, and only categorical questions may be asked. Each judge may
only ask one question of each speaker within that speaker's time limit. The judges will judge you
based on the following: manner, matter, and interpolation. The team with the higher score earns
1 point. And the team with the highest number of points wins the debate. The debate between the
two competing universities is entitled "Is it essential to declare the Philippines and China's
combined exploration and development of the West Philippine Sea as unconstitutional?" This is
also a subject of territorial contention in the Philippines.

The first speaker on the positive side's key argument is that Article 12 Section 2 specifies
that all natural resources are the property of the state and that all of their exploration,
development, and exploitation must be done under the complete authority and supervision of the
state. A third-party corporation may also take part in two different ways. First, the government
may sign co-production, joint venture, or production-sharing contracts with a domestic company
in which Filipinos hold a majority stake. Second, the president is permitted to sign a contract
with a foreign-owned business. The second speaker on the negative side makes the primary
argument. They added that since our energy resources are depleting and our investments have
stalled due to several disruptions, we require combined exploration and development. They also
mentioned that since their energy supply had ran out, the Malampaya gas might not last very
long. They added that since the west Philippine Sea is abundant in oil, minerals, and other
natural resources, we don't need to import gas and oil from other nations. Additionally, the
territorial conflict between China and the Philippines prevents the Philippines from using the
natural riches that are present in the west Philippine Sea. The affirmative side performed a
fantastic job of arguing their position, according to the debate's ultimate conclusion. The last spot
in the semi-finals was gained by the University of San Carlos.

If I were a debating competitor given the same subject, I would pick the opposing side.
Considering that I wish to demonstrate that some subjects can be unfavorable. I will be able to
explain to them the drawbacks of cutting down trees and other environmental issues, such as
cutting down trees. The main lesson I've learned from watching the video is that we should
prepare for the questions that the other team will ask us and also research the topics that will be
provided. in order to mentally prepare ourselves.
