Functionalism = structural functional theory

 Society with interrelated parts designed to meet the biological and


social needs of individuals who make up the society
Herbert Soebcer (1820-1903)  likened society to a human body
Social institutions : economy, political systems, healthycare, education,
media and religion.
Emile Durkhlems  earlier, more primitive society held together, because
most people performed similar tasks and shared values, language and
sysmbols.
A stable state is called  dynamic equillibrum
Social facts are the laws, morals, values , religious beliefs, customs, fashions,
rituals and all of the cultural rules that govern social life.
