Electronic commerce (e-commerce) is the process of buying, selling, transferring, or

exchanging products, services, and/or information via computer networks, mostly the internet
and intranets. It also refers to digitally enabled commercial transactions between and among
organizations and individuals.

The companies that we have chosen are Nike and Adidas which in apparel and sportswear
industry. Nike is a company that manufacturing footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories,
and services. Nike was founded on 25 January 1964 and previously known as Blue Ribbon
Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Blue Ribbon Sports started out making running
shoes for a Japanese company then shifted to design its own brand shoes and outsorcing from
Asia. It officially became Nike, Inc. on 30 May 1971.The headquarter of Nike is at near
Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area. “Nike” this name took by the company
was from the Greek goddess of victory. There are many products under its own brand, like
Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Air Jordan, Nike Blazers, Air Force1, Nike Dunk, Air Max and
subsidiaries including Brand Jordan, Hurley International and Converse. Nike sponsors a lot
of high-profile athletes and sports team around the world like Ronaldo and Michael Jordan.
Nike’s brand logo ‘swoosh’ and trademark of ‘Just Do It’ is highly recognized by the public.
The mission statement of Nike is ‘To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the
world’. E-commerce improves Nike’s growth strategy. As high as seem, Nike began offering
its e-commerce capabilities in new markets. Since the announcement in 2015, Nike added e-
commerce offerings in Canada, Switzerland, Norway, Chile, Turkey and Mexico. The

Adidas is a company that manufacturing shoes, clothing and accessories. Adidas was founded
on 18 August 1949 by Adolf Dassler and set to work with 47 employees. On the same day, he
registered a shoe with 3 stripes which is ‘symbol’ for Adidas. The headquarter of Adidas is at
Herzogenaurach, Germany. Reebok is operating as subsidiary of Adidas since 2005. The
company’s official logo is three parallel bars and stylized with a lower case ‘a’. Reebok is a
subsidiary company of Adidas Group. Adidas also sponsors many famous athletes around the
world like Lionel Messi and David Beckham. Adidas’s mission is to be the global leader in
the sporting goods industry with brands built on a passion for sports and a sporting lifestyle.
With continuing development of technology advancement, Adidas also have their own
website. Adidas achieved record sales to a growth of almost 60% in its e-commerce business
in 2016. The publishing date of Adidas website was on 31 May 2013.
