EXPERIMENT NO

AIM To analyse the given salt for acddic and basic radlcal.

MATERIAL REQUIRED: test rube, test tube stand, holder etc.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
State: Amorphous
Colour: Whlte
Odour: No characteristic odour
Solubility: Soluble in water

TEST FOR ACIDIC RADICAL:

S.No EXPERIMENT OBSERVATION INFERENCE
Pinch of salt + dilH;SO, and Colourless & odourless gas with brisk effervescence is CO,is present
warm. evolved (CO,).Gas turns lime water milky.
2. For Soluble Carbonate Brisk effervescence is evolved. CO,2Is confirmed.
Solutton +dilLHCL Gar turns lime water mlky.
3 Solutdon+Mgs0, solution White ppt. n cold. CO,2Is confArmed.

RESULT: The given salt contain carbonate (CO,) as acidic radical and ammonlum (Ca-) as basic radical. So the salt is
calclum carbonate, CaC0.

PRECAUTIONS
1.Use dry test for conc. HaSO4.
2.Use distll water for all test.
3Always use holder to hold test tube whlle taking conc. acid or during heating.
