5E`s Lesson plan in science

I OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
a. define asteroids;
b. describe the characteristics of asteroids; and
c. name some common asteroids.

II SUBJECT MATTER:
a. TITLE : Asteroids
b. REFERENCE: Science and Technology : Integrated textbook pp 115-117
c. Materials:
 Science Book
 Visual Aids
 Worksheet
 Video Clip
d. Science Concept: asteroid sometimes called minor planets, are rocky remnants left
over from the early formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.
e. Process skills:
 Listening
 Collaborating
 Defining
 Describing

III PROCEDURE
A. Engagement
1 Routinary Activities
1.1 Prayer
1.2 Greetings
1.3 Checking Attendance

2. Drill
 Let the students sing the song “ The Asteroid Belt.

3. Review
 Recall the past lesson
 Ask the student about what they`ve learned.

4. Motivation
 Show a picture let the student name the following. ( Guesing Game).

1. What do you think about the activity?

2. Base from the photo, what do you think our topic for today?

B. EXPLORE - setting of standards to be followed in doing activity.

 Show a Video clip about asteroid.
 (Video Presentation)
 Guided Question:
1. What is the video all about ?
2. Based from the video, what is asteroid?
3. Where do asteroid located in the solar system?

EXPLAIN:
 Asteroids, sometimes called minor planets, are rocky remnants left over from the
early formation of our solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.
 Most of this ancient space rubble can be found orbiting the sun between mars and
Jupiter within main asteroid belt.
 Asteroids are pieces of rock in outer space. There are millions of asteroids, ranging
in size from small boulder to many miles across/
 Asteroids can be dangerous.
 Asteroids are believed to be remnants from the creation of our solar system.

Characteristics of asteroids
 The make up of asteroids is not really set in stone
 Some are completely rocky with icy layers, while others have nickel - iron cores
 Asteroids come in a variety of shape and sizes. Some are solid bodies, while other
are smaller piles of rubble bound together by gravity.

Types of Common Asteroids

- are grayish in color and are the most common, including more then 75% of known
asteroids.
-they probably consist of clay and stony silicate rocks, and inhabit the main-belt`s outer
regions.
 The S - type of siliceous asteroids
- are greenish to reddish in color, for about 17% of known asteroids and dominate the
inner asteroid belt. They appear to be made of silicate materials and nickel - iron.
 The M - type or metallic asteroids
- are reddish in color, make up must of the rest of the asteroids, and dew ell in the
middle region of the main belt. They seem to be made up of nickel-iron.

ELAVORATE :
 Group the students into 3 groups. Let them arrange the picture puzzle each puzzle
have an allotted time of 2mins.
