Sen, Rodrigo opposed and believed
that Rizal is anti-Catholic and the
bill violates the freedom of
conscience and religion.
They opposed the bill because they
believed that Rizal become a hero
just because he died for the
country, and tthere are a lots of
filipino heroes I colonial period
who died and sacrifice their lives.
Those who opposed the Rizal Bill
painted Recto as communist and
anti-Catholic. According to Abinales
and Amoroso (2005), the church
feared the bill would violate the
understanding of the Filipino about
the catholic church.
