What is a tap?

Tap is a fitting which control water supply

How does a tap work?

The principle is very simple and effective. Taps are normally constructed from solid brass for a longer life and then chrome or gold plated to add an easy to
clean finish. The water pipe is connected to the bottom. Water is then held in a chamber until required. When you want water all you need to do is turn the
handle anticlockwise which unscrews an internal valve and starts the flow of the water.

Parts of tap

1. Handle- handle is the part of the tap which allows to open and close the tap allowing
flow of water and blockage
2. Stem and the packing - stem is the part of the tap that controls the flow of water by
pushing the washer down into the valve seat when in off position. Packing helps in
holding it firmly.
3. washer - washer sits at the bottom of the stem and prevents leaks.
4. Valve body and valve seat- this is where the flow of water is started and stopped ,
located inside the spigot.

AERATOR

A faucet aerator (or tap aerator) is often found at the tip of modern indoor water faucets. Aerators can simply be screwed onto the faucet head,
creating a non-splashing stream and often delivering a mixture of water and air.

Functions of aerator

● Prevent splashing
● Shape the water stream coming out of the spout, to produce a straight and evenly pressured stream
● Conserve water and reduce energy costs
● Reduce faucet noise
● Increase perceived water pressure (often used in homes with low water pressure);
sometimes described as a pressure regulator or flow regulator
● Provide slight filtration of debris due to a small sieve plate
MIXERS

A tap in which hot and cold water supplies have a joint outlet but are controlled separately. A mixer tap simply combines hot and cold water together through
single spout and the user alters the temperature by one or two controls.

Types of mixers -

1. Mono mixer bath taps

2. 2,3,4 hole mixer
3. Free standing , floor standing
4. Wall mounted
5. Bath mounted
6. Bath shower
MIXERS

How does a mixer tap work?

In terms of how mixer taps actually work, the inside of the tap units contains small holes, also called valves or butterflies (due to their shape).

When one turn the tap on, these holes move from a closed position to a partially or fully open position, depending on the flow rate and temperature you are
trying to achieve. For example, if one just wants hot water, the cold handle will be off meaning the valve is completely closed, while the hot water will be
partially or fully open.
QUARTER TURN

Quarter turn taps use ceramic discs and is only a 90 degree turn to be on full pressure.
The face seal is made of plastic, and the 2 disks are made of ceramic and hence the
name. The spindle and the disc housing is made of copper or brass. And all of it goes
inside a steel body.

SINGLE LEVER TAPS

Taps that operate using one lever to control the water. Generally speaking, you turn the tap to the left to get progressively hotter water or to the right to get
progressively colder water.

Single Lever Diverter

Also known as Wall Mount Diverter, contains a independent control unit in the
absence of a water outlet source. An additional spout need to be provided for
outlet of water. Known for the luxury of design available in various style.
