General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purposes: To inform the audience on the benefits on learning foreign languages, the
statistics that supports the benefits and presents examples.

Salutation: A very good day to my respected audience, It is an honour to be here with you
today. ( thank the master of ceremony, the organisers and greets important audience with
correct salutation)

- Have you ever been to a foreign country where no one can speak your language
and got lost?
- How do you communicate with the locals?
 In a globalised word, learning foreign languages has become a wonderful benefits.
 A research shows that bilingualism has been associated with improved metalinguistic
awareness
- Ability to recognise language as a system that can be manipulated and explored.
 We have been knew that English is the world’s lingua franca but learning another
language can open a whole new world that is full of opportunities and experiences.

 Sharpens mind
- Learning new languages is known as “brain workout”
- Help people to be attentive to surroundings and better at spotting misleading
information.
- A study from Spain’s University of Pompeu Fabra reported that multilingual
people are better at observing and sensitive with their surroundings.
- Easily spot anything that is irrelevant or deceptive.

 Provides better career choices


- Can work in every field especially on a job that inquire you to communicate with
people around the world.
- Eg. Meet client from another country with poor English
- According to Eton Institute’s Language Development in the Workforce
survey (September 2014), 89% of their clients stated that multilingual
employees add value to the workforce and 88% stated that recruiting team
members with language skills is important to their organization.

 Enhance the ability to multi-task


- Multitasking can be stressful for those who are not used to it.
- People who have developed the ability to think in different languages and able to
move from on to the other languages can make a great multi tasker as they are
able to switch to one another at the same time
- According to a study from the Pennsylvania State University, people who are
multilingual and proficient at slipping from one language system to another are
practiced at this very demanding work for the brain.

Closing

- It is suggested to learn foreign languages as it will help you to open more


opportunities, not only in your career path but also in metacognitive skills
improvements.
- There are many languages class offered, whether its paid or offered for free
- Take as much as opportunity to learn the languages as it can help you with your
self enhancement.
