Everyday Activities

Write a description of what must be going on in your body for you to perform even the simplest
activities. Perhaps you are attempting to throw a ball, take notes in class, or sing along to your favorite
song. Analyze a particular behavior and attempt to include all the systems in your body (nervous
systems, brain structures, etc.) that make it possible for you to do what you are doing.

In our everyday activities our brain is usually involved all the time. For example, attempting to throw a
ball, when we start to move to the ball. The moment-to-moment 3D coordinated of the shape and
location of the ball reach the motor cortex in the frontal lobe. The motors cortex in the frontal lobe
works with the timing system in the cerebellum, the overall balance system and the reflex motor
support systems in the brain stem and the thalamus to finalize the action. Occipital lobe is present in
this activity for processing visual information. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is also involved in
this activity because they include nerves of the hands, arms, feet, legs, and trunk. The somatic nervous
system is also being used in this activity because it carries messages that control body movements. It is
responsible for activities that are under our control, such as attempting to throw a ball. We are using
somatic nervous system to control the muscles needed to throw a ball. But most importantly it’s all
possible due to our cerebellum, for It controls balance, movement, and coordination and how our
muscles work together.
