Change
I - Sources of Social Change
1.Innovation
 the social creation and institutionalization of
new idea. (ex. new idea/concept of freedom,
justice, and equality as asserted by Dr. Jose
Rizal and Nelson Mandela)
a concept of integrated innovative solutions
to address problems and issues a society is
facing (ex. Slavery of black people)

2. Technological Advancement
 the use of technology in our daily lives also changes
our social norms or behavior. (ex. Constant use of
smartphones)
 people get connected all over the world through
technology. (Global village)
 Technologically advanced countries are on the rise.
 Technology contributes a lot to the modernization in
the fields of medicine, agriculture, manufacturing,
and other industries. (ex. Online shopping)

3. Social Institution
social institutions are established set of
norms and subsystems in a society.
societies are composed of different
sectors and each sector carries out
specific tasks. Each sector also has
different responsibilities that contribute to
the normal functioning of the society.

4. Population
A change in population in the composition
of every level in the society leads to social
change.
regardless, whether the population
increases or decreases, for sure it has a
great impact to all aspects in the society.
II - Sources of Cultural Change

1.Physical Environment – consists of the


particular natural surroundings in which
you live.
2.Population Movement – movement of
people from one place to another. Migration
of person or a group of people changes
their culture.

4. War and Conquest – when a state
conquers another territory and the
population within the territory, it
influences their culture.
5. Technology – application of scientific
knowledge to the making of tools to
solve specific problems.
III – Sources of Political Change
1. Social issues: tensions between
differing racial and ethnic groups or
policies that deny specific group of
people civil rights.
2. Economic turmoil: is when citizens feel
the pressure of not having enough
money and feel that the government is
not helping them out. (this frustration can
spark political change)

3. Change of Leader: involves the replacement


of leaders. The recognition that to change the
personnel of a government may be an effective
way of changing government policy.
4. Change of Policies : refers to incremental
shifts in existing structures, or new and innovative
policies (Bennett and Howlett 1992). (Ex.
Economic policie)
