ACCELEROMETER
Accelerometers are used to measure
acceleration, shock, and vibration, commonly
used in automotive, industrial machinery and
energy. Accelerometers that use Integrated
Electronic Piezoelectric (IEPE) transducers are
increasingly popular - ensure your DAQ device
can excite IEPE circuits.

MICROPHONES
Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) of vehicles and
aircraft drives most T&M microphone usage, but the IoT
adding speakers and sensors in consumer goods is
expanding needs for sound measurements. Many
microphones use IEPE and TEDS technology—choose DAQ
with conditioning to match.

STRAIN GAUGE
Structural test is necessary on most physical products -
but aircraft and heavy equipment can require hundreds
of synchronized strain channels. Strain gauges use
Wheatstone Bridge technology—know the differences
between quarter, half, and full bridge strain gauges
before you build!

THERMOCOUPLES
Thermocouples (TCs) are used to measure temperature,
and are some of the most inexpensive and widely used
sensors in science and industry. The largest source of
error in TCs comes from a cold junction connection
(CJC) where leads meet your DAQ device—be sure your
device includes CJC compensation.

TORQUE AND LOAD CELLS

Torque sensors and load cells are particularly common in
dynamic structural test, durability test, and test of any
loadbearing or moving structures. They, like pressure
sensors, are often built off Wheatstone (full) bridge
technology, so one DAQ device with bridge conditioning
can have several uses.

IMAGE SENSORS
Cameras have always been popular for visual inspection
in production/assembly line test, but new investment in
the Industrial IoT is leading to more IR thermography to
test and monitor key assets. For machine vision, software
is as important as hardware, so be prepared to analyze!

INERTIAL MEASUREMENT
SENSORS
Advances in MEMS technology are shrinking sensors
(physically and in cost), pushing the boundaries of what
one sensor can do. Modern IMUs combine
accelerometers, GPS, pressure sensors, and more on one
chip. Anticipate growing needs for simultaneous
sampling DAQ for these sensors.

PRESSURE
SENSORS
Pressure sensors are key in aerospace wind tunnels and
for understanding fluid flow in energy applications.
Pressure sensors are typically based on Wheatstone
(full) bridge technology, but can output current loops,
mV, or V signals. Carefully review your specs and choose
flexible DAQ.
