Introduction

Product Overview
The PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System is a flexible, modular system for capturing
images from a variety of imaging modalities or network image sources. The
captured images can be printed on film, using a Kodak Laser Imager, or sent over a
network to remote printers or other destination devices connected to a network.
The PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System can connect to an Ethernet network and
uses the DICOM 3.0 protocol to send or receive images over the network.
There are three versions of the PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System:
1. Print Server version
Connects to an Ethernet network. Receives images from DICOM-compliant
modalities or other DICOM devices on the network and forwards these images
to a Kodak Laser Imager for printing on film.
Refer to Section 2 in this manual for more detailed information on the Print
Server.
2. Modality Server version
Captures images from up to three connected modalities. An operator can route
these images to:
A Kodak Laser Imager for printing on film.

Product Description – Print Server

Product Description – Print Server

The Print Server version of the PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System is a print
management device that connects to an Ethernet network. It performs the following
functions:
Receives DICOM print class images sent from DICOM modalities or other
DICOM-compliant image source devices on the network.
Converts DICOM images to a format that can be printed by a Kodak Laser
Imager.
Sends converted images to the laser imager connected to the Print Server.
The Print Server operates without operator control. It continuously monitors the
network and automatically captures any images addressed to the Print Server from
other network devices. It then automatically converts and prints each image
received.
The print server consists of a Windows NT Workstation and the application
software that controls the print server functions. A network interface for the Ethernet
connection and an interface for connection to a laser imager are included in the
workstation.

Print Server Sequence of Operation

The following steps illustrate the basic sequence of operation between a DICOM
image source, the Print Server and the Laser Imager.
1. The DICOM device places an image on the network addressed to the Print
Server.
2. The Print Server reads in the image from the network and stores it on the hard
disk in the workstation.
3. The Print Server converts the image to a format that is compatible with the Laser
Imager.
4. When the Laser Imager is ready, the print server sends the image to the Laser
Imager.
5. The Laser Imager prints the image on film.
The Print Server performs all of the above steps automatically without operator
intervention.
If a series of images are received at a rate faster than the Laser Imager can print
them, the Print Server will accumulate the images on the hard disk until they can be
printed. If the Laser Imager runs out of film or otherwise become inoperative, the
Print Server will continue to accept incoming images until the Laser Imager is
returned to service or until the hard disk becomes full.

Operation and Maintenance – Print Server

The Kodak Print Server requires no special handling or preventive maintenance.
However, care must be taken not to jar, physically damage, or spill liquids onto the
equipment.

Note
When installed, the PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System components were
placed flat, bottom-side down, on a tabletop or other sturdy base allowing for
easy service accessibility. In addition, precaution was taken during installation
to place the workstation so that it was not located in an area within ten feet of
the vicinity of patient care. The vicinity of patient care is defined as any area
accessible by the patient or by those administering care that can touch the
patient. Because of these precautions, it is recommended that relocation or
movement of the PACS Link 9410 Acquisition System be performed only by
Kodak personnel or their designated representatives.

Aside from turning power on or off there are no actions that must be performed by
an operator on the Print Server.

System Power Up
To turn Print Server power ON or OFF press the power switch on the front of the
Workstation case. The power indicator lights up when power is ON. After you turn
on power, the Print Server performs a start–up sequence that takes about three
minutes. It is then ready to receive and print images.
The Kodak Print Server is designed to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If
there is a power interruption, the Print Server should power up automatically with no
operator assistance when power is restored.

Modality Server Sequence of Operation

The following sequence describes a basic image capture and print operation
performed by the Modality Server version of the PACS Link 9410 Acquisition
System.
1. A user issues an acquire request from a keypad or host control device.
2. The modality server captures an image from the modality and stores it in
memory.
3. The user can repeat step 1 to capture and store a group of images.
4. From the keypad or host control device the operator issues a print request.
5. The modality sends the group of images images to one or more
previously-selected destination devices.
a. If the destination is the direct-connected laser imager, the modality server
routes the group of images from memory to the laser imager. The images
are printed on a single sheet of film.
b. If the destination is a network printer or other network device, the modality
server converts the images to DICOM form and then routes them to the
network destination.
Before image capture begins, output destinations must be selected. The user can
select output destinations from a keypad. If host control is used instead of a keypad,
output destinations are specified when the system is installed. Only one output
destination can be selected.

Operation and Maintenance

Operation and Maintenance - Modality Server

The Modality Server requires no special handling or preventive maintenance.

System Power Up
To turn Modality Server power ON or OFF, press the power switch on the front of the
Workstation case. The power indicator lights up when power is ON. After you turn
on power, the Modality Server performs a startup sequence that takes about three
minutes. The optional PACS Link 9410 Keypads or Host keypads will indicate ready
when the startup sequence is complete.
Several types of external interface boxes (called EIBs) are used to connect
keypads, host control devices and modalities to the Modality Server. These interface
boxes should be powered ON before the Modality Server is powered ON.
The Kodak Modality Server is designed to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If
there is a power interruption, the Modality Server should power up automatically
with no operator assistance when power is restored.
