Section 1 – Product Description
1999 Rev. C 1-1

Product Description
The Toshiba Laser Imager Interface (TLII) is a conversion device that connects a
Toshiba modality (i.e., Flexart Magnetic Resonance or CCDR) to a Kodak Laser
Imager. It allows images captured by the modality to be printed on film by a Kodak
Laser Imager. The TLII consists of a SUN workstation and software operating
system, an S-bus interface card and TLII application software. For U.S. installations,
a 14.4 or higher modem is included for remote configuring and troubleshooting the
TLII. Figure 1-1 shows how the TLII fits into a Toshiba modality/Kodak Laser Imager
system.

Sequence of Operation
The following steps illustrate the basic sequence of operation between the Toshiba
modality, the TLII and the Laser Imager:
1. Toshiba modality sends an image to the TLII.
2. The TLII receives the image from the Toshiba modality and stores it on the TLII
hard drive.
3. The TLII software converts the image data to a format compatible with the
Kodak Laser Imager. When required, the TLII also performs image scaling,
overlay inclusion, contrast and density adjustments, plus contrast table
cross-references.
4. When the Laser Imager is ready, the TLII sends the image to the Laser Imager.
5. The Laser Imager prints the image received from TLII.
The TLII should run without any user intervention. When problems do occur, there
are several things the user can do to help determine the cause of the problem. If a
problem can be solved remotely (via modem), the user may be asked to assist in
the analysis. See Section 4.

Section 2 – Basic Troubleshooting
1999 Rev. C 2-1

Basic Troubleshooting
Before calling for Kodak service, it may be possible to fix some problems easily.
Table 2-1 shows what can be done if the TLII won’t accept images from the
Toshiba modality. Use Table 2-1 to determine the problem and initiate corrective
action.
Sometimes a failure occurs during transmission and the major concern is: Are my
images lost? Use Table 2-2 to determine the possible location of images when a
problem has occurred and the required corrective action.

Section 3 – Care and Maintenance
1999 Rev. A 3-1

Care and Maintenance

The TLII requires no special handling or preventive maintenance. However, care
must be taken not to jar, physically damage, or spill liquids onto the TLII.

Note
When installed, the TLII was placed flat, bottom-side down, on a tabletop or
other sturdy base allowing for easy service accessiblity. In addition, precaution
was taken during installation to place the TLII so that it was not located in an
area within ten feet of the “vicinity of patient care.” The “vicinity of patient care”
is defined as any area accessible by the patient or by those administering care
that can touch the patient. Because of these precautions, it is recommended
that relocation or movement of the TLII only be performed by Kodak service
personnel.

Section 4 – Loading the CD-ROM Player
1999 Rev. A 4-1

Loading the CD-ROM Player

Your TLII Sun SPARC workstation has a CD-ROM player as shown in
Figure 4-1.
Operating system and application software come on CD-ROMs and are included
with the user documentation packaging.
On occasion you may be asked by a Kodak technician to insert a CD-ROM in the
CD-ROM player. Once the CD-ROM is loaded into the TLII, the service technician
can remotely initiate the load. When the load is complete, the technician will ask you
to remove the CD-ROM from the CD-ROM player.
Complete the following instructions for loading and unloading the CD-ROM player:
1. Make sure the TLII is powered on. The power indicator should be lit. See
Figure 2-1 for location of power indicator light.
2. Press the CD-ROM eject button as shown in Figure 4-1 to open the CD-ROM
drawer.
3. Find the CD-ROM disk to be loaded as requested by the service technician.
Both the application software CD-ROM and the operating system software
CD-ROM are included with the user documentation packaging.
4. Load the CD-ROM into the CD player with the label side up.
5. Press the CD-ROM eject button to close the CD-ROM player.
6. When requested by the technician, remove the CD-ROM from the player and
return it to its packaging.

Loading the Floppy Disk Drive

Your TLII has a floppy disk drive as shown in Figure 5-1.
On occasion you may be asked by a Kodak technician to insert a floppy disk into the
floppy disk drive. Once the floppy is loaded into the TLII, the Kodak technician can
remotely initiate the loading sequence. When the load is complete, the Kodak
technician will ask you to remove the floppy from the disk drive.
Complete the following instructions for loading and unloading the floppy disk drive:
1. Make sure the TLII is powered on. The power indicator should be lit. See
Figure 5-1 for the location of the power indicator light.
2. Find the floppy disk to be loaded as requested by the Kodak technician. The
floppy disk is included with this user documentation.
3. Load the floppy disk into the disk drive with the label side up.
4. When requested by the Kodak technician, remove the floppy from the player and
return it to its packaging.
