1. A 500mm x 760mm concrete beam of 7.5m simple span is loaded with a uniform load
of 45KN/m including its own weight. The center of gravity of the prestressing tendon
is located 220mm above the bottom of the beam and produces and effective stress
of 1600 KN.
a. Compute the stress at the bottom of the beam due to dead load and live
load only.
b. Compute the stress at the top of the beam due to an effective stress of
1600 KN.
c. Compute for the total stress at the bottom of the beam after the
application of prestressing force of 1600 KN

2. A simple 10m T-beam shown is post-tensioned with tendons 500sqmm in area are
stretched to a stress of 600KN. The tendon passed through a hole of 60x70mm. the
center of the hole is 80mm from the bottom of the beam. Find the maximum fiber
stress in the concrete immediately after prestressing. Concrete weight 24 KN/cu.m.
