8 types of Globalization

Since World War II, Globalization has been driven by two major factors;

a. Decline in barriers to the free flow of goods, services, and capital/free trading;

b. Technological change

1. Social Globalization- integration of our society; we live in a shared society

Examples: War between Ukraine and Russia affects everyone

The conflict between the US and Afghanistan affects all nations

Death of a famous political leader/ head of state/ president/ monarch

2. Technological Globalization- refers to the spread of technology around the world

Examples: Solar panels, Internet, gadgets, vaccines/medications, facilities, airplane industry/

boat industry, ammunitions/guns, satellites and etc.

3. Financial Globalization- refers to the ease at which money can be spread around the world

Examples: Stock market, foreign exchange, investors, World Bank

4. Economic Globalization-refers to the ways corporations do business as multinational

organizations nowadays

Examples: Starbucks, McDonald, Wendy's, Subway, Visa, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan and Chase, Nike,

Adidas, Jordan, Krispy Kreme, Jco Donuts, and other multinational organizations

5. Political Globalization- diplomatic negotiations between nations-states, rule of law

Examples: Intervention of the United Nations, Political visit of a state leader to another country

The intervention of the European Union, negotiating trade deals, discussing mutual

problems, implementing new policies, and tackling disputes

6. Cultural Globalization- refers to the spread of mixing cultures around the world

Examples: the spread of punk, emo, rock, reggae, and reggaeton music; spread of Disney Culture,

Kpop/kdrama, Telenovela and soap operas, spread of milk tea around the world

7. Ecological Globalization- refers to the idea that the world needs to be considered one

interconnected ecosystem

Examples: Hole in the ozone layer, climate change, global warming, melting of the ice caps,

pollution, oil spills, earthquake, and monsoons

8. Sociological Globalization- refers to the idea that the world is no longer seen as a group of distinct

nations as much as it was

Examples: If you have a passport, you can travel anywhere

If you have a valid visa, you can travel to another country
