Group Activity 1: The race is on

Names:Manzur, Munifa W. Grade/Strand/Section:12-STEM Arellano

Ibrahim, Aishraneem S.
Belotendos, Sherly Ann M.

I. Objectives

 Calculate the average speed of a moving body

II. Materials
 meter stick
 stop watch

III. Procedure
1. Select three (3) of your members to run the #0-m distance.

2. Choose an area where the members will run. Use a meter stick to
measure the desired distance.

3. Make 10-m intervals along the runway. Record the time the runner
passes the 10m, 20m, and 30m mark.

4. Determine the average speed by dividing the distance by time taken.

5. DO the same to the other 2 runners.

IV. Results and Observation

Runner Distance (m) Time (sec) Average Speed (m/s)

1 (Ibrahim) 10 3.42 2.92
2 ( Manzur) 10 3.20 3.13
3 (Sherly) 10 2.59 2.79

V. Question for Analysis

1. Compare the first runner’s speed to that runner 2 and 3

 By comparing the three runners in this activity, the speed of the first
runner in the 10m mark is slower than the second runner but faster
than the third runner. In the 20m mark, the first runner is still slower
than the second runner but this time the first runner is slower than
the third runner. On the last mark or the 30m mark, the first runner
obtained the slowest speed than the second and third runner.

2. Did each runner achieve a constant speed during his/her travel?

 Looking at the three tables above, the three runners didn’t achieve a
constant speed as they travel the 10m, 20m, and 30m mark.

3. Show your computation for each runner’s average speed.

A.1 First runner’s average speed running the 10m mark

A.2 First runner’s average speed running the 20m mark

A.3 First runner’s average speed running the 30m mark

B.1 Second runner’s average speed running the 10m mark

B.2 Second runner’s average speed running the 20m mark

B.3 Second runner’s average speed running the 30m mark

C.1 Third runner’s average speed running the 10m mark

C.2 Third runner’s average speed running the 20m mark

C.3 Third runner’s average speed running the 30m mark

4. Plot a distance versus time graph of your data.

VI. Conclusion
Therefore we conclude that, as the runner travel in a short period of
time then the average speed of the runner is faster or higher than the
other runners. Just for instance, the first runner obtained a 3.42 seconds
running a 10m mark while the second runner obtained 3.20 seconds and
the third runner obtained 3.59 seconds, it concludes that the first runner
ran the 10m mark slower than the second runner but faster than the
third runner.

Additionally, we also observe that the runner didn’t maintain a

constant speed as they travelled the different distances. For the first
runner, as she travelled the 10m, 20m, and 30m mark her speed is
changing form fast to slow and fast again while the speed of the second
runner is increasing as the distance is also increases and lastly, the third
runner obtained a increasing speed as she ran the different distances
just like the second runner.
