REFLECTION PAPER

Being one of the learners of GURO 21 (Gearing Up and Responsible and Outstanding Teacher)in
Southeast Asia for the 21st Century (SEAMEO INNOTECH) I’m so blessed and privilege to be a part
of this prestigious learning platform for teachers . It helps me developed and equipped me with
knowledge, skills attitude and values as a teacher for the 21st century. It made me personally and
professionally ready so that I will be able to help my learners to become 21 st century ready. The
contents are relevant and applicable in enhancing my competencies as 21 st century teacher
because it provided me as concepts and ideas that served as my strong reinforcement in my
teaching career.

The course taught me to balance my time from a hectic schedule in school to participating my
GURO 21 class every Saturday. But it was a great and meaningful experienced in my teaching
career.

In the first module entitled “Equipping Teachers with Knowledge and Skills, Attitude and Values
for the 21st Century, it is relevant in the sense that 21st Century teacher, I am confronted with
various challenges to thrive in the educational context of the 21 st. I need to be equipped and be
ready to take on the challenges and be a competent teacher to the 21st century learners. In the
second module which is “Facilitating 21st Century Learning”, this module enabled me to
understand better on how I should be a subject matter expert. It also gave me the insights on how
to become an effective facilitator of learning and be an efficient classroom manager of the 21 st
century teaching and learning.

Certainly, the course did not come easy as eating an apple. There were many challenges I met
halfway. One was internet connection, sometimes power interruptions, there were times that I
need to prioritized my schedule being a learner in GURO 21 a mom of 5 kids and a classroom
teacher handling coordinator in AP subject and school paper in school. But this help me realized
that if you need something great you have to work hard for it. For me GURO 21 is not just a want
but a need for every teacher to cope up and equip to the changing educational system and
challenging 21st century learners.

In general, my overall experienced in this course is “Outstanding”. This is based on the objective
and thrust of the course GURO 21. All of the activities I engaged throughout the course were all
relevant to the goal of becoming a competent 21 st Century teacher. Our facilitator was also
excellent in his field. I would like to thank him for sharing his expertise to us. Indeed it was a life
changing experienced as a teacher.
