Ovation specific network equipment, like Ovation workstations and controllers are using multicast and broadcast
types of data transmission. This implies in same load of network during plant start-ups, shutdowns and normal
operation.
Every point record in Ovation system has a Broadcast frequency which is defined by EMR according to required
needs of value refresh rate.
Ovation interfacing
Apart of interfaces mentioned in above table, Ovation system can as well communicate with Third Party Systems
by standard hardwired connection.
Ovation Domain
All Ovation workstations are members of the Active Directory Domain. This means that all Windows and Operator
security settings will be managed by the Domain Controller. In addition, user accounts are general for whole network
(not local per each workstation).
For SDI solar PV project, the following Domain name will be applied:
• SDI.Ovation.ENGIE.local

Alarms
Base alarm system will be used according to features of Ovation System. Besides color alarm animations on graphic
diagrams a separate window for alarming will be available also (using Alarms application).
Ovation principles are that each point in the system can have a property of Alarm status. For Digital points (0/1)
“alarm on one”, “alarm on zero” or “change of state” alarms are available. For Analog points, up to four (4) high and
four (4) low alarm limits can be used.
Not all graphical alarm presentation displayed on process diagrams will be displayed in Alarm List application.
For this project two (2) process alarm priorities are proposed to be used. Alarm priority 1 is the highest and alarm
priority 2 is the lowest. For one signal, only one alarm will be visible of highest priority.

network and the outside world is routed through a server that determines if a
message is safe to pass to the internal network.
Flash data Portion of an Ovation point record that is stored in the originating drop’s
flash (or disk) memory and copied to receiving drop’s periodically.
Frequency The measurement of the number of occurrences of a repeated event per
unit of time. For example, points are broadcast over the Ovation network at
different frequency rates:
(S)low = every 1 second
(F)ast = every 0.1 of a second
(A)periodic = as needed or user-defined
Fully qualified point Point name that specifically identifies a point by combining three
name parameters. Format is pointname.unit@network where point name contains
a maximum of 24 characters, unit contains a maximum of 6 characters, and
network contains a maximum of 8 characters. Should not be used when
inserting a new point in Developer Studio, only insert point name parameter.
