 1. INTRODUCTION

By means of the present document the evidence on the chronicle about an iconic
character and with important trajectory in the world of Civil Engineering and informatics is
carried out.
 2. ICONIC CHARACTER IN THE WORLD

ROBERTO KONOW CASADO

Born in Chile 36 years ago, he studied Civil Engineering at the Universidad Diego Portales
in Chile and specialized in computer science and telecommunications. He started Civil
Engineering in 2004, in 2009 after finishing his studies he started a Master in Computer
Science and specialized in IPTV (Internet Protocol focused on subscription distribution of
pay TV signals) and taught basic and advanced programming classes among others. In
2011 he started his PhD in computer science at the University of Chile and in 2016 he
published his thesis on information retrieval systems (IRS) analysis, a mechanism
focused on quickly finding the best answer to a user's query.

He did an internship at eBay in San Francisco where he optimized the search engine of
the American company, which led him to become an official employee of the company.
He worked for more than 5 years and became director of the machine learning group.

Founded FollowUP with three other people, achieving presence in more than 20 countries
and operating in 12 thousand retail branches worldwide; in 2019 merged with DataSection
Inc. of Japan, becoming the first Chilean company to be listed on the Japanese stock
exchange.

Currently and according to the modifications made by the new owner of Twitter Elon
Musk, Konow will continue his work as director of engineering and machine learning in
the area of twitter trends and search; that is, he leads a group of developers, engineers
and computer scientists to keep in order the twitter search engine and improve the
functionalities of trends such as trending topics and recommendations.
