1 INTRODUCTION
The Omnispec is designed to deliver extracorporeal, focused, low‐intensity shockwave
therapy.
The device should be used only by qualified and trained personnel under
supervision of the physician trained and/or experienced in the use of this device
as outlined in an appropriate training program.
This device should be serviced by authorized personnel. Do not attempt to repair
or service this device yourself.
Do not put the device in a way that will make it difficult to disconnect it from
the Mains electric outlet.
To avoid risk of electric shock, this equipment must only be connected to
supply mains with protective earth.
Keep this manual close at hand for reference at all times
2 UNPACKING
The OrthospecTM system is supplied in a wooden box (Figure 2‐1).
To unpack follow the instructions below:
1. Release the screws holding the Black Cover Lockers.
2. Remove the Black Cover Lockers with a Flat Screwdriver as shown in Figure 2‐1.
3. Dismantle the Front and Upper Covers. Take out the small packages.
4. Remove all the Covers.
5. Carefully Remove the OrthospecTM from the plate and put it on the floor.
Note: It is recommended to keep the box for future shipment.

4 BEFORE STARTING TO SERVICE
It is important to be familiar with the device before starting to service. Be sure that you are
familiar with the device:
Structure including wiring diagram
Components, connectors
Accessories, consumables
Operation procedure and modes
Graphic User Interface including all screens and windows
Required user maintenance actions
Error messages
Any hardware modification shall always be done in accordance with the
wiring diagram relevant to the model in use.
For detailed and complete device description refer to the Orthospec Operating Manual:
OR‐3‐X400.
Also, a block diagram describing the system is available in the appendix of this manual.
Dangerous high voltage! Before opening the device for any purpose
it must be turned off and disconnected from the mains power for at
least 30 minutes.
5 TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
The following tools and equipment are needed:
1) Allen keys of the following sizes: 2.5mm, 3/16”, 5/32”, 3/8”
2) Philips Screwdriver (medium size)
3) Flat Screwdriver (medium and large size)
4) Multitester (DVM – digital multimeter)
5) Laptop + USB extension cable
6) Scissors

6 INITIAL INSTALLATION
1) Make sure the swivel casters and brakes function properly.
2) Make sure that the Supporting Arm with its three knobs function properly.
3) Make sure Main Switch is turned off, than Connect the AC power cord to the
Orthospec and plug its other end to the mains outlet.
4) Turn the Orthospec ON.
5) Touch the Open Door button on the main screen and wait till the Maintenance Door
is fully opened.
6) Follow the “Initial preparations” described in Chapter 3 of the operating manual
(electrode calibration/installation and reservoir filling)..
7 TECHNICIAN SCREEN

The technician screen is used for settings and for system testing. It contains 4 tabs located at
its top part:
1. MCU tab
2. Counters tab
3. General tab
4. Configure tab
Each tab allows specific settings and tests as described in the following paragraphs.
To enter the Technician Screen, press on the Technician screen tab and type 15426.

For changing the default configuration use the "General" tab of the technician screen.
After completing the system configuration it is recommended to go to the Main screen and
verify it is working according to the selected configuration.

9 COUNTERS TAB
This tab provides information regarding the value of the Filter, Plug and Membrane
Counters.
Do not change the counters preset values unless officially instructed by
Medispec's Service Center

10 CONFIGURE TAB
This tab is password protected and is intended for technician that was specifically authorized
by Medispec.
When selecting this tab, two other tabs will appear:

10.1 General1 Tab
This tab enables advanced system configuration. It allows:
1) Setting the door actuators timing
a. Default values: Start Open Door=7000 / Open Door=13000
2) Setting the water drain timing
a. Default value: 20000
3) Disable or enable the device height piston and shockwaves frequency during
treatment.
4) Setting the type of the High Voltage Power Supply.
5) Setting the serial number of the device.
6) Reset database after fatal error.
7) Determining the mode of maintenance expiry warning.
a. Checked – the warning will appear on every STOP and on system startup
b. Unchecked ‐ the warning will appear only on system startup
8) Determination of the date format.

11 MCU TAB
The MCU tab contains system status indicators and buttons to analyze and control the
microcontroller and the high voltage module of the Orthospec.

Green designates enabled/OK status
Black designates disabled
Red designates an error
Note: the normal status is when all the indicators are green.
Tech pulses = number of shockwaves performed in the technician mode
since the Orthospec was turned ON.
HV monitor = displays the high voltage output
HV enable Activates the high voltage
Slow mode Start to deliver shockwaves in a frequency of 30 / minute(slow)
Single trigger Start to deliver a single shockwave
Trigger enable Start delivering shockwaves (normal)
Spark gap Starts a "warm up" process for the spark gap (shall be done after extended
storage ~ 3 months). Two warm up modes are available: Full and Short.
KV to determine the high voltage level
Override to bypass an error
SBC Fail to simulate a fault in the Watch Dog or the OMAP
Show log to show the system activity log
When the system activity log was opened, the following buttons appear:

13 SYSTEM TESTS AND REPAIR PROCEDURES
13.1 HVPS INPUT Voltage Test
To analyze the source of HVPS supply failure, perform the following voltage measurements:
1) Power supply main plug (Figure 13‐1a)
2) "Control": between SV9‐4 to GND (see note below and Figure 13‐1b ) or TP3 on the
Control PCB (Figure 13‐2).
3) "Enable": between SV9‐7 to GND (see note below and Figure 13‐1b) or TP18 on the
Control PCB (Figure 13‐2).
4) Control unit Main Power input: between MF1‐4 to MF1‐8 (Figure 13‐1c)
5) 230V Secondary winding
6) 230V Primary winding
Note: To measure the "control" and "enable" you will first have to press: "HV Enable
button" in the MCU tab "KV" button type 14000 "Enter".
After measuring, look at the table below and locate the line reflecting your measurement
results to find the source of failure.

13.2 Control PCB Voltage Test
To analyze the source of Terminal voltage problem, follow the measurements according to
the table below. If the problem was not resolved replace the Control Unit and perform high
voltage calibration.

13.3 Thermal Switch Test
When the thermal safety led in the MCU tab is red, a thermal problem exists. The basic
assumption is that the room temperature complies with the environmental specifications.
To analyze the source of problem follow the measurements according to the table below:

13.4 High Voltage Calibration

When the high voltage test fails it is required to perform high voltage Calibration as follows:
1) Press the HV Enable button.
2) Press on the KV button .
3) Type 12000 in the high voltage input field.
4) Press Enter.
5) The system status icon will change to "X" for few seconds and then will turn to "ok".
6) Perform "Calibration Test" (section 13.5).

13.5 Calibration Test
1) Verify that all system led indicators are green.
2) Press the HV Enable button.
3) Press on the KV button.
4) Type a value between 14000 and 20000.
5) Press Enter.
6) Check the HV monitor – the value should be equal to the value you typed ±1%
a. If ≤ 1% ‐ the test completed successfully.
b. If > 1% ‐ perform High Voltage Calibration (section 13.4)
7) Repeat the test for 3 more values (you can use the ±1000 / 250 buttons).

13.6 Delivering Shockwaves via Technician Screen
1) Verify that all system led indicators are green.
2) Press the HV Enable button.
3) Press the KV button.
4) Type a value between 14000 and 20000.
5) Press Enter.
6) To start shockwaves in the standard frequency (120 ppm) press on the "Trigger
Enable" button.
7) To deliver a single shockwave press on "Single Trigger" button.
8) To start shockwaves in the slow mode (30 ppm) press on the "Slow Mode" and then
"Trigger Enable" button.
9) Repeat this for different values of High Voltage in the range of 14000 to 20000

13.7 Spark‐gap recovery

1) Press the Spark‐gap button.
2) Check the box near "Don't verify triggering" .
3) On the right bottom side press on "Start Full Recovery" button.
The KV will be automatically increased while delivering shockwaves in between.
This procedure may take approximately two hours.
13.8 Override Procedure

1) Click on the override button.
2) Click on the interlock button.
3) Go back to main screen and initiate a shock wave.
4) If the problem was resolved, perform Interlock Test.
5) If the problem persists, override the thermal safety.
6) If the problem was resolved, perform Thermal Switch Test.
7) If the problem persists replace the Control Unit.

14 COMPONENTS REPLACEMENT GUIDE
14.1 Overview
The following paragraphs describe the replacement procedure of specific components of the
Orthospec.
All other modifications which are not described in this manual shall not be performed.
All Replacement procedures should be done while the system is turned OFF and
while the power cable is disconnected from the main outlet. Wait 20 minutes
before removing the covers.

14.3 External Fuses Replacement
1) Open the External Fuse Housing F1 and F2 using a flat screwdriver.
2) Remove the faulty fuse and replace it by a new one
3) Use the correct fuse according to the correct wiring diagram.

14.4 Covers Removal
1) Remove the Side Covers by opening two Philips screws at the bottom of each cover.
2) Disconnect the Fast Ground Connector.
3) Remove the Back Cover by opening Six Philips screws.

14.5 Internal Fuses Replacement
1) Open the Internal Fuse Housing F3 and F4, and pull down the housing.
2) Remove the faulty fuse and replace it by a new one. Pay attention to the nominal
Voltage of the fuse.

14.6 HV Power Supply (HVPS) Replacement
1) Remove the back and the side covers.
2) Disconnect the HV connector (Figure 14‐8a)
3) Discharge the HVG Capacitor by touching the chassis with the metallic tip

4) Disconnect the AC Inlet Connector, White Control Connector and the Ground Wires
By opening the Philips screw with a middle size Screwdriver.
5) Remove the HVPS by opening eight Philips screws with a small Philips screwdriver.

6) Remove the Bottom Bracket from the "old" HVPS and assemble it to the "new" HVPS
by opening the two small Philips screws.
7) Replace the HVPS by a new one
8) Perform the following procedures: : HV calibration (see 13.4) and HV calibration
test (see 13.5).
9) After closing the covers, turn on the Orthospec and from the Main screen let it deliver
~1000 shockwaves.

14.7 HVG Replacement
1) Make sure an Electrode is installed in the device’s Electrode Housing and the
Maintenance Door is closed than switch the device OFF and disconnect from
The main AC Inlet.
To avoid electrocution: Disconnect the HV power supply connector (white
connector) from the HVPS and ground it to the metal chassis.
2) Remove the back and the side covers.
3) Disassemble the HVG Bracket by opening two 5/32” Allen screws.
4) Disconnect the HVG Control Connector from the HVG by opening the Connector.
Disconnect two red fasten Connectors of the Thermal switch and the Ground fasten
connector.
5) Pull the HVG out of the device and replace it by a new one. Insert the new HVG gently
all the way in. Make sure the Electrode is seated inside its hole in front of the HVG.
6) Turn the device ON. Assemble the HVG Bracket, don’t tighten two Allen Screws
of the Bracket. Open the Maintenance Door by clicking on the Open Door Soft‐key
Then click on the Close Maintenance Door.
Make sure the door is closing properly and only then tight the HVG Bracket.
Turn the device OFF and connect all the cables following steps 5, 4, 2.
7) Tests needed: Spark‐gap recovery procedure, operating the device around 1000
shockwaves from the main screen.

14.8 Control Unit Replacement
1) Remove the back and the side covers.
2) Open the four Butterfly Nuts below the Control Unit Housing.
3) Pull the Control Unit out of the housing and swivel it to ease cables disconnection.
Note: to avoid scratches, insert soft material between the front of the system and
the Control Unit .
4) Remove the Bracket Control Unit by opening four Philips screws with a middle
size screwdriver and pull the bracket gently out from the Control Unit .
5) Disconnect nine White Connectors from the Control Unit . Disconnect two D‐Type
Connectors but first open two Philips screws of each one.
6) Disconnect two Thermocouple and USB Connection from the Control Unit .
7) Disconnect two D‐Type Connectors by opening two Philips screws of each one.
8) Tests needed: Defining the device serial number, operating the all device functions
from the main screen, makes around 1000 shockwaves from the main screen.

14.9 Door Actuator Replacement
1) Remove the back and the side covers.
2) Open the Maintenance Door by clicking on the Open Soft‐key and
Turn the system OFF and remove the HVG.
3) Remove the Spring Disc with a Plier and remove the Metallic Pin.
4) Open the Actuator Housing by opening the Screw with 13mm Wrench and pull the
Actuator out from the Actuator Housing.
5) Disconnect the white Connector of the Actuator.
6) Replace the Actuator by a new one and assemble it by following step 4 and 5.
7) Turn the device ON and click the Open Maintenance Door Soft‐key.
Assemble the Metallic Pin .
8) Turn the device OFF and assemble the HVG back into the system.
9) Tests needed: Calibrating the service door limit‐ switches, operating the all device
functions from the main screen.

14.10 Water Sensor Replacement
1) Remove the back and the side covers.
2) Remove the Left Water System Cover by opening three Philips screws.
3) Remove the two Locking Rings by opening the rings with a wrench.
4) Remove the Electrical White Connector than disconnect the Sensor Pipes
by pulling the Flexible Pipes out from the Blue Pipes.
Notice: It is easier to insert or to pull‐out the Flexible Pipes after heating it is by a
Blower.
5) Disconnect the white Connector than disconnect the Sensor Pipes.
6) Replace the Water Sensor.
7) Tests needed: calibrating the water sensor controller if needed, operating the all
device functions from the main screen especially the water system.

14.11 Valve Actuator Replacement
1) Remove the back and the side covers.
2) Open the Maintenance Door by clicking on the Open Door Soft‐key.
3) Make sure the Membrane is empty and remove the Electrode from its
housing.
4) Disconnect the Valve actuator Connector.
5) Remove the Valve actuator by opening two Allen screws with 9/64 Allen Key.
6) Replaced the Valve actuator .
7) Tests needed: operating the all device functions from the main screen especially the
water system.

15 PREVENTIVE AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
15.1 Routine user maintenance procedures
The Orthospec user is required to perform several maintenance procedures that are detailed
and explained in the operating manual.
During service it is recommended to review these procedures with the user and verify they
are being done properly.
The safety of this equipment depends on ongoing maintenance and regular safety
inspections.
Electrical leakage current and ground impedance of this equipment needs to be
checked by a Medispec authorized technician every 6 months.
15.2 Periodical service procedures
The following procedures shall be carried out once in a six months by Medispec qualified
service technician.
1) Use Alcohol to clean the electrode contacts of the HVG while the Service door is
opened. (**)
2) Check and replace if necessary the O‐ring (NR‐2‐E040) located in the reflector.
Lubricate it with coupling solution. (*)
3) Clean the Reflector using alcohol. (**)
4) Check the water system.
5) Electrical safety test:
a. Check the Grounding
b. Check the Leakage current
6) General inspection of the installation /Cables
(*) Orthospec Power shall be OFF.
(**) Orthospec Power OFF and power cord disconnected.
