Just like the principles of design, there are elements underlying each design which are useful in creating
quality and marketable designs. Aside from the principles of design which you have previously learned, what
other element can you find from those figures.
Here are guide questions to give you hints on the elements that will direct you in identifying those
elements:
1. What element of design should you use when you want to form a particular shape or a figure?
2. What element of design should you use when you want your design to become more attractive?
3. What element of design should you observed when you want to give reality to your drawing?
4. What element of design determine the character of the surface of your drawing?
These elements will help your product design look more unique from other designs:
1. Color is the most essential element because it gives life to a product design. It refers to specific
hues and has three properties which include: yellow, blue and red.
2. Value is the relative darkness or lightness of a color. A sad figure would require a darker value.
A happy figure requires lighter and brighter colors.
3. Texture refers to the surface quality of an object or a design which characterizes the degree of
roughness or smoothness of objects.
6. Form is similar to the shape or the structure of your design. It refers to a three – dimensional object
having volume and thickness.
Using the following materials: long bond paper, colored pencil, pencil, eraser, ruler.
Instructions: Activity Sheet 2 is provided for you to apply what you have learned about the elements of design.
Draw the different designs that will illustrate each element as indicated in the drawing sheet. Use a pencil or a
colored pencil.
One (1) to two (2) elements/outputs may be designed in a long bond paper/per sheet of sketchbook.
