LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET IN ARTS 6
(A6EL-Ia)
Week 1- Lesson 2: Discusses the concept that art processes, elements and principles still apply
even with the use of new technologies.
Even with the use of digital tools, artists would have to consider the
processes, elements and principles of arts.
The elements of art are the basic components of art-marking. It is
impossible to create a work of art without using at least one of the seven elements of
art. Artworks can also be analyzed according to the use of the elements in a work of
art.
The principles of art generally deal with the way the elements of
art are composed within the work of art. So, the principles of art typically deal with
composition. The principles tend to be more fluid than the elements meaning that
opinions vary on what the principles really are.
The lines, shapes, forms, values, colors, textures, and spaces that
are incorporated must all work to make your artwork great. The elements must be
used as quality ingredients in an artwork.
Process describes how the art is made. Drawing, weaving, printmaking
and photography are all examples of different processes.
Directions: For better understanding on the elements of arts, get your crayon and color the
texts printed on the next page. Follow the model provided below.

Commercial art is the art of creative services, referring to art created for
commercial purposes, primarily advertising. Commercial art uses a variety of
platforms (magazines, websites, apps, television, etc.) for viewers with the intent of
promoting sale and interest of products, services, and ideas. It relies on the iconic
image (pictorial representations that are recognized easily to members of a culture) to
enhance recall and favorable recognition for a product or service.

The principles of art represent how the artist uses the elements of
art to create an effect and to help convey the artist's intent.
The seven (7) principles of art are:
1. Balance refers to the visual weight of the elements of the composition. It can
be achieved in 3 different ways:
a. Symmetry, in which both sides of a composition have the same elements
in the same position, as in a mirror-image, or the two sides of a face.
b. Asymmetry, in which the composition is balanced due to the contrast of
any of the elements of art.
c. Radial symmetry, in which elements are equally spaced around a central
point, as in the spokes coming out of the hub of a bicycle tire.
2. Emphasis is when the artist creates an area of the composition that is
visually dominant and commands the viewer's attention. This is often
achieved by contrast.
3. Contrast is the difference between elements of art in a composition, such
that each element is made stronger in relation to the other. Negative/Positive
space is an example of contrast. Complementary colors placed side by side is
an example of contrast.
4. Movement is the result of using the elements of art such that they move the
viewer's eye around and within the image. A sense of movement can be
created by diagonal or curvy lines, either real or implied, by edges, by the
illusion of space, by repetition, by energetic mark-making.
5. Pattern is the uniform repetition of any of the elements of art or any
combination thereof. Anything can be turned into a pattern through
repetition.
6. Rhythm is created by movement implied through the repetition of elements
of art in a non-uniform but organized way.
7. Unity/Variety. You want your painting to feel unified such that all the
elements fit together comfortably.
