Introduction:

Before proceeding towards disassembly, ensure all safety precautions and

follow all instructions as mentioned in the ‘Permit to Work’.

General Precautions:

Before commencing dismantling,

 Make sure that the pump is de-energized.
 The suction and discharge valves of the pump must be isolated.
 The volute casing must be drained out and depressurized.

Disassembly Procedure:

Refer pump sectional view.

1. Drain the oil.

2. Remove the coupling guard.
3. Disconnect coupling spacer sleeve.
4. Disconnect and remove the auxiliary connections (Plan 11/52/62,
seal pot cooling, bearing housing cooling).
5. Loop a rope tightly around the top stay of the distance piece.
6. Unscrew hex head bolt (901.02) and the base frame fixing bolts of
support foot(183) and remove the support foot.
 Unscrew hex. Nuts (920.01) and pull the complete bearing bracket
together with shaft, impeller and bearing bracket lantern out of
volute casing(102). Use forcing screws(908.01) for assistance in
doing this, having first cleaned the screw threads. Take care not to
damage gasket(411.03).

NOTE:
 Check/record the ID of casing wear ring and OD of impeller wear
ring while dismantling.

7. Unscrew impeller nut(922) with its Helix-Coil insert (right handed

screw thread), remove gasket (411.01) pull out the impeller(230)
and remove key(940.01).
8. Remove stuffing box gland (452) together with the stuffing box
ring(454) after having unscrewed hex nuts (920.03).
9. Remove casing cover (161), then remove the gasket (411.04) and O’
ring(412.01). Next remove the stuffing box packing(461) and
lantern ring (458) (if fitted) from the packing compartment. Then
remove the neck bush(456) after having unscrewed screws(900).
10. Pull shaft protecting sleeve (524) together with gasket
(411.02) off the shaft. Pull off stuffing box gland(452) together
with stuffing box pressure ring (454). Splay out thrower (507) and
remove it.
 Dismantling the Mechanical Seal Stuffing Box .
1. Unscrew hex nuts (920.02) and push back mechanical seal
cover (471) until it abuts against the splash ring (507).
2. Dismantle the casing cover (161) together with O’ ring
(412.01).
3. Pull the complete mechanical seal together with shaft
protection sleeve(524), mechanical Seal cover (471) and
splash ring (507) off the shaft.

11. Unscrew hex nuts (920.02) and remove bearing bracket

lantern(3440.
12. After having unscrewed socket head cap screw in the coupling
hub, pull the coupling half off the pump shaft with the aid of an
extractor device, and remove key(940.02).
13. After having unscrewed socket head cap screw in the coupling
hub, (940.01/02) dismantle the bearing cover (360.01/02) at the
front drive ends of the pump, together with flat gasket(400.01/02).
14. Carefully drive out shaft(210) together with angular contact
ball bearing (320) and inner race of the of the cylindrical roller
bearings(322) towards the drive end of the pump.

15. Remove the roller cage of cylindrical roller bearing (322)

from the bearing bracket. Then remove circlips( 932.01/02) and
spacer ring(504.02).
16. Bend back lock washer(931), unscrew bearing nut (923)
( right handed screw thread), remove lock washer.
17. Heat up angular contact bearings(320) and the inner race of
the cylindrical roller bearing (322), and pull them off the shaft.
18. Clean all the components and examine them for signs of wear.
Touch up the damaged components or replace them by new ones if
necessary.

Reassembly:

The reassembly procedure should be in reverse sequence to dismantling.

The following points is to be carefully observed.

Note:
 The pump should be reassembled in accordance with the rules of
sound engineering practice.
 The fits of individual components should be coated with graphite or
other suitable lubricant before assembly, and the same applies to
screwed connections.
 Radial shaft sealing rings should be examined for signs of damage
and replaced by new ones if necessary.
 Flat gaskets should in principal, be replaced by new ones, and the
thickness of the new one should be exactly equal to the old one.
 Use only antifriction type bearing and sizes specified in Table 2
(Arrangement of Bearings and Quantity of Oil). Angular contact
Ball bearings (320) and the inner race of the cylindrical roller
bearing (322) should be preheated in an oil bath or bearing heater to
80 o C Approx. before being slipped onto shaft until they abut
against shaft shoulder.
 The angular contact ball bearings (320) must be mounted in ‘O’
arrangement; remember the spacer ring (504.02).
 When the angular contact ball bearing is mounted, the lock washer
(931) should be slipped on, and the bearing nut (923) screwed on
firmly with the aid of a hook wrench ( do not use hammer ) after the
bearings have cooled down.
 Bend the lock washer forward to lock the nut.

 When mounting bearing covers (360.01/02) take care not to damage

the radial shaft sealing rings (421.01/02).
 Ensure free rotation of the pump shaft while tightening the casing
bolts.
 The impeller nut should be tightened according to the torque value
given in Table 3. Refer Annexure for details of metallic washer
fitment in impeller.
 After assembly into the volute casing which has remained in situ in
the piping the coupling alignment should be checked.

The values in 100% torque column apply to initial tightening of brand new
threads. After repeated tightening of threads and with a good lubricant,
values are to be reduced by 15% to 20%.

Metallic washer fitment for impeller nut(922), impeller(230)

and shaft protection sleeve (where Applicable) :

Metal to Metal fit of the impeller nut(922), impeller(230) and shaft

protection sleeve (524) against the shaft shoulder is done as shown in the
sketch and as described in the procedure given below:

This is achieved without reworking of standard parts. However recheck

cavity dimensions as shown and rework only if required.

Procedure:

Spacer washer (551.32) and gasket(411.32) are inserted between shaft

protection sleeve (524) and impeller (230). Then the spacer
