Classroom Management Plan

Classroom Arrangement:

Classroom Arrangement Rationale

My room will be arranged so learners are facing the front of the room, as well as the
whiteboard/promethean board, where I will display important information, assignments, as well
as where information will be presented during direct instruction.
There will be a space left open in the front of the room during times when I will bring the whole
group to the carpet, either for direct instruction or small-group instruction.

I will have a table in the back of my classroom where I can bring small-groups or where I can
work one-on-one with learners within the classroom.

There will be cubbies on the right side of my classroom where learners will find necessary
materials such as: small white boards, expo markers, pencils, paper, markers, headphones,
etc… I will also have clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and kleenex on the top of these cubbies so
they are easily accessible to learners.

There will be a class library in the back of the classroom with a small display of books where
learners can check out these books and/or read them during independent reading time.

The student desks are arranged so they can work easily independently, as well as cooperatively,
and there is enough space that learners can rearrange the desks if necessary. There is enough
space where I can easily walk around the room and get to learners in a timely manner.

The walls of the room will have our classroom expectations displayed, the daily schedule,
posters, vocabulary words we will add throughout the year, as well as anchor charts that we
create throughout lessons as a class. These will serve as visual aids for learners where they
can reference them in a manageable way.

I have incorporated flexible seating in my arrangement, where learners can have a choice on
which type of seat they sit on. Giving learners the choice of where to sit and what type of chair
they would like to sit in increases responsibility, freedom and choice within the classroom, as
well as increasing movement and refocuses the brain.

Classroom Management Plan:

It is important as an educator to approach our decisions using our philosophies as educators.

Attached is where you can see my philosophy of education: Philosophy of Education

Below are my priorities as an educator, as well as how I will approach my classroom

management:

I want students to be confident and advocate for their learning - This means I will create a
safe learning environment, where each child feels valued, and where each child feels
comfortable sharing their thoughts as well as reaching out if they need help.
I want to inspire students to be lifelong learners by creating lessons that are engaging,
authentic, exciting and relevant to the lives of my students. - This means that I will build
lesson plans around the curriculum, but I will include ways to present it that interest my learners,
and continuously
I want to create a classroom where learners are accepting of all.

Learning Community Standards:

1. We will grow together as individuals & classmates

2. We will respect each other, ourselves, the classroom, and the teacher(s).
3. We will encourage our own learning and our classmates' learning.
Step 1: Positive Praise - I will positively praise those who are following directions, and
exceeding expectations, as well as following the learning community standards in the
classroom. This will let others know the expectations and hopefully reinforce the expectations
for those who may have gotten off task. For example, I could tell “Maria” that I appreciate her
coming into the classroom quietly and getting started on the bell-ringer, as well as showing
respect to her learning, her classmates, and her teacher.

Step 2: Non-verbal Redirection - When our learning community standards are not being
followed (if learners are not choosing wise decisions for their learning, not respecting
themselves, their classmates, the classroom or teacher, or showing a lack of interest or effort in
their learning), I will pause what I am doing, using hand-motions, eye contact, etc… and redirect
the learner(s) to bring them back into the classroom, and follow the standards.

Step 3: Verbal Reminder - kIf learners are struggling to follow our learning community
standards, I will go to the learner(s) individually, and remind them of our standards. I will point to
the poster we have in the room, and ask the learner specifically what standard they may not be
following. I will ask the learner how they can transition their behavior into following those
standards.

Classroom Consequences:

Step 4: Hallway Conversation - If the first three steps I take do not change the learners
behaviors, I will remove them from the environment. This will be helpful in cases where the
learner may be seeking extra attention from their classmates, or simply needing a break from
the classroom. I will ask the learner about what they noticed in their actions, how it might harm
themselves and their learning, their classmates and their learning, etc… I will ask them for ideas
on how they can make positive changes to their behavior, and let them know that they may
come into the classroom

Step 5: Office Referral/District Discipline - If I have enacted the previous management plans,
and the behavior still persists, I will refer the learner to go to the office. Whether that is me
calling the office to come discuss with the learner, or taking the learner to the office, they can
have these discussions with the office, who will ultimately make a decision for the learner
pertaining to the specific behavior.
