A) SZABÁLYOS ALAK (regular verbs): az ige –ED végződést kap

pl. I LIKED the giraffe. (Tetszett nekem a zsiráf.)

● Az –ed végződés kiejtése a szóvégi hangtól függ:

- Ha az ige (kiejtésben) zöngétlen mássalhangzóra / θ, h, k, p, s, ʃ , tʃ/ végződik (kivéve: t),

az –ed végződés kiejtése: /t/
pl. watch → watched /wɒtʃt/

- Ha az ige (kiejtésben) zöngés mássalhangzóra vagy magánhangzóra / ð, b, ŋ, g, j, l, m, n,

r, v/ végződik (kivéve: d), az –ed végződés kiejtése: /d/
pl. travel → travelled /'trævəld/

- Ha az ige (kiejtésben) /d/-re vagy /v/-re végződik, az –ed végződés kiejtése: /ɪd/
pl. start → started /'sta:tɪd/

● Néhány helyesírási tudnivaló:

- Ha az ige mássalhangzó + y-ra végződik, az -ed előtt az y –i-re változik az –ed előtt!
pl. try → tried
(DE: ha az y-t magánhangzó előzi meg, az –y megmarad! Pl. play – played)

- Ha az ige néma e-re végződik, az –ed végződés előtt kiesik a néma –e (azaz nem írunk le két e
betűt!)
pl. live → lived

- ha az ige egy szótagú és 1 magánhangzó + 1 mássalhangzó betűre végződik, az –ed végződés

előtt a mássalhangzót megkettőzzük
pl. stop → stopped
(v.ö.: pl. talk – az utolsó mshg. előtt egy másik is van → nem kettőzzük meg! → talked)

DE: nem kettőzzük meg a mássalhangzót, ha az –y vagy –w!

pl. play → played

- A mássalhangzót akkor is megkettőzzük, ha az ige több szótagú és –l-re végződik

 B) RENDHAGYÓ ALAK (irregular verbs):
Bizonyos igék rendhagyók, mert nem a szabályos –ed végződés kerül a végükre,
hanem valahogyan másképp hozzuk létre a múlt idejű alakjaikat.
pl. Bob SAW the giraffe. (Bob látta a zsiráfot.)

Az egyszerű igeidők használatáról elmondottak szerint:

● szokásos, valamilyen gyakorisággal ismétlődő cselekvés a múltban

pl. Minden nap fociztam. (I played football every day.)

● egyetlen pillanatig tartó (mozzanatos) cselekvés, amely nem folyik hosszan

pl. Lehunytam a szemem. (I closed my eyes.)

● egyszerű tény közlése, állapot, érzés vélemény kifejezése

pl. Itt laktam. (I lived here.)
 LÉTIGE: MÁSKÉPP!

● A létige múlt idejű alakja nem csak rendhagyó, de abban is kivételes, hogy nem
minden számban és személyben ugyanaz az alakja!
- E/1 (I) és E/3 (he, she, it) személyben: WAS
pl. I was happy. He was happy. (Boldog voltam. Boldog volt.)

- A többi esetben: WERE

pl. You were happy. We were happy. (Boldog voltál. Boldogok voltunk.)

● Tagadáskor a létige elé nem kerül segédige, és a ‟not‟ nem a létige elé, hanem mögé
kerül (– l. korábban tanultak!)
pl. I was not happy. You were not happy.

● A ‟not‟ tagadószó összevonható az ‟was‟ és az ‟were‟-rel (más igével soha!)

pl. I wasn‟t happy. You weren‟t happy.

● Kérdezéskor nem használunk segédigét, hanem a létige kerül az alany elé
