Not only teacher’s teaching method, but also how students learn is the factor affecting to

motivation. Five out of eight students claimed that bad grades is main reason for them to lose
motivation in learning the second foreign language. Because they learned for score, so if they
distracted and receive unexpected results, they would be bored in learning this language and lost
motivation. So the last question is what strategies students do to keep or increase motivation in
learning the second foreign language in SOFL. According to the data, two out of three students who
has studied in SOLF for 2 years said that when they wanted to regain motivation, they would create
new learning environment. They tried hard in studying with friend, set the same goal together and
built a timeline by themselves. Maybe learning in school has not made you be interested anymore, so
learning with your friend will be the best choice. Because friend is more comfortable, he can support
to you in setting goal or anything, give you advice to change your learning habit during process. It is
great experience and you will get strong desire in this language again. It is likely with the idea of
Anders, when you reach a plateau in learning language or feel unmotivated, let’s change the habit or
proceed another routine can help you get out of it. These results indicate that new learners keep
motivated by the way creating the condition within which they can motivate themselves and by
friend. In another way, it is developing not only intrinsic motivation, which comes from inner and last
longer than extrinsic ones ( Mitra, 2016) but also extrinsic motivation, which concerned with factors
outside the classroom ( Harmer, 2007). However, this finding indicated that the second- year
students has more extrinsic motivation than intrinsic one, because they are new learners, so they
also have a desire for language.

Besides, the 3rd - year student mainly based on score to be motivated. All of them said that
whenever they are lack of motivation in learning the second foreign language, they will see on the
high score of this language last year and regain motivation. They care more about the grades, and the
potential of this language. They ask themselves if this language could help them for job in the future.
Furthermore, they are planning to learn more after that to get certificate. This finding indicated that
the third- year students have more extrinsic motivation than other, even became the only one. After
learning the second foreign language, they forgot the love of this language and be pressure under
the job future. So grades and job future will boost them regain motivation better than their love.

According to the results, it is proved that both students in SOLF have more extrinsic motivation and
they regain it mainly by other rather than intrinsic one. Why had the change of motivation: from both
into just extrinsic one? That can be explained by the pressure of job future and competitive grades,
they need to regain motivation faster and more directly. Whatever kind of it, whatever strategies to
regain, motivation is the important factor for student to learning second language in SOLF.

III. Conclusion

In conclusion, the results of the study underscore the importance of motivation in learning the
second foreign language in SOFL.  All of the participants in the interview have different reasons as to
why they choose another language besides English to learn and they agree that being motivated
when learning is the most important factor for their results at the university. Moreover, it shows that
teaching method of teacher can affect to motivation’s student. While on campus, the teachers can
provide lectures based on the performance of students. And finally, it aslo indicates some strategies
for students of SOFL to hook on the 2nd foreign language. Major is based on high grades before to get
back motivation.
