Common Noun – is a type of noun
which means GENERAL NAMES of
person, things, animals, places, and
event. It starts with a
SMALL/LETTER.
Example:
Person: mother, father, teacher, doctor,
policeman

Things: Pencil, book, cellphone, shoes,


electric fan

Animals: dog, cat, bird, horse, chicken

Places: playground, school, shopping mall,


amusement park

Proper Noun – is a type of noun which


means SPECIFIC NAMES of person,
things, animals, places, and event. It
always starts with a BIG LETTER.
Example:

Person: mother – Sarah, father – Raxon,


teacher – Ms. Catherine Salvador, doctor –
Dra. Tamayo, policeman – Sgt. Tejada
Things: pencil – Mongol, book – English
Today, cellphone – Samsung, shoes –
Nike, electric fan – Hanabishi
Animals: dog – Bailey, cat – Bleu, bird –
Love, horse – Pony, chicken – Kooku
Places: playground – Kidzone, school –
Taytay Elementary School, shopping
mall – SM Mall, amusement park –
Enchanted Kingdom
Example using sentences:
Common Noun – Would you like a chip?
Proper Noun - Would you like a V-cut?
Common noun - My teacher is always my favorite.
Proper Noun - Teacher Catherine is always my favorite.
Common Noun - We can meet at the fast food chain.
Proper Noun - We can meet at Jollibee.
Common Noun - Let’s go to the beach.
Proper Noun - Let’s go to Boracay.

WEEK 4 – THE USE OF A AND AN


Indefinite Article
Use a when the indefinite article
comes before a word beginning with a
consonant sound/letter.
Example: A book, a toy, a cat, a ball
An – Use an when the indefinite
article comes before a word beginning
with a vowel sound/letter.
Example: an apple, an alligator, an
amulet, an amusement park.

Example in the sentence:

I brush my teeth.
I fix my bag.
I play with my friends.
I eat my breakfast.
Review: Choose the verb in each
