Pag-asa sa Pagbasa reaction paper

Watching Kara David’s Documentary was a huger awakening that leaves a bad taste in
my mouth. Teachers were in a dilemma which to choose pass every one of the students to have
a clean and decent record on their performance in teaching or fail those who don’t meet the
standards and be branded as incompetent teacher. I still don’t have much knowledge in creatin
a systemic criterion in teaching but I agree with what the teacher said that the System of DepEd
in evaluating the schools is wrong.
Teachers are the second parent of every student and it is our job to pave the road and
build foundations to meet the dreams of the students. However, we can’t execute our expertise
because of variables like Poverty, Lack of Fundings, and some broken elementary knowledge of
the students. Teachers in the video made a decision to teach the students without pay so that
they can meet the standards of their respective year levels. Their sacrifices are massive that I
am assuming they spend more time in the school rather than their home. Poverty really
strengthens my notion of why Philippines scored the Lowest in reading comprehension in the
Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2018. Because of poverty students
at a young age of 12 were force to make a living to help their parents. Most of them tend to
only memorize the Alphabet without even knowing what are their sounds or how are they read
when they are combined with another letter. They don’t have time to review in their home
because they need to work for their daily food. An Empty stomach will stop the student on
remembering to review their previous lesson. Government needs to give more funds in schools
to build more classrooms. It is pitiful for a single teacher to teach in a crowded room that the
numbers of students exceeded what their profession require. It is also distressing that a
classroom still needs to be divided in half to put another section on the other side. I was
building a grudge while watching this video to those Elementary Teachers that let the students
graduate in elementary but is unable to read. They are supposed to build a cornerstone on each
of their pupils so that they can navigate smoothly in their Secondary Level. But maybe they
were also force by the system and can’t do anything.
I believe that Filipinos Memorized fast and absorb more data than the other race.
However, our current system may not be the best in stimulating the comprehensions of
students. That’s why as a future Educator it is my duty to help the those who are willing to
learn. Furthermore, the support of the parents and a community without discrimination will be
appreciated very much by the Educators of the Philippines. The Excellence of the country is
made out of the quantity and quality of the Citizens reading comprehension.
