Although rarely spoken about by society, child abuse is one of the nation’s most pressing
problems today. As the population continues to grow, so does the number of unwanted and unplanned
children. It is estimated that six or seven out of a hundred children will be maltreated or neglected.
Child abuse can come in three forms: (1) passive cruelty in the neglect of children by an unloving
or uneducated parent; (2) occasional cruelty in the momentary violent reaction of a frustrated
or overburdened parent; and (3) consistent, deliberate cruelty in uncontrollable actions by a mentally
sick parent. Simple neglect is easiest to correct. Actual abuse on the spur of the moment is
more serious, but still much less so than continual abuse due to mental illness.

It is obvious that the purpose of education will determine the content of the curriculum, the
methods employed, and the kind of education given to children and young persons. This functional
relationship is still occasionally overlooked, unfortunately. Even if most modem theorists emphasize
that education should be discussed with reference to the objectives and values of the community
in which it is given, there still exist some who appear to think that problems of the curriculum
can be dealt with in an abstract manner.

Real depression cannot be as easily overcome as some people often suppose. It usually passes
with time — but the time can seem endless. Activities giving companionship and a new interest
can help. But for the sufferer to talk, again and again, about the causes of the depression helps
most. People with depression need to be listened to and encouraged to find their own solutions,
not made to feel yet more inadequate by good advice. They may need professional counselling
as well as the support of family and friends.
2020 has been a tumultuous year, and as we look forward to 2021, the ‘K-shaped’ economic
recovery we’re in cannot be ignored. This type of recovery isn’t all that new —
— in fact, the
world saw such a recovery in 2008. When an economy is bouncing back from a recession and
E
starting to expand again, economists have an alphabet of the letter to describe said recession
and recovery. The ‘K-shaped’ economic recovery is characterized by a stark split in the recovery
pace of the economy — some sectors are bouncing back ahead of the rest at a much faster
pace, while others are continuing a downward trajectory. The split in the recovery pace therefore
resembles the letter ‘K’. This begs the question, which industries are doing well, and which
aren’t? The industries that are on the upper curve are technology players, large corporations,
governments, and public utilities. While these are industries that may bounce back faster than
the rest, the industries on the lower curve, who are suffering the fallout from the pandemic,
are the travel, entertainment, and food services industries. However, there is a way for businesses
in most sectors, even those on the lower curve, to find a way to thrive.
30 According to the passage, which of the following represents the most likely economic
activity fbr industries in the upper part of the ‘K’? 4점
31 According to the passage, what is the most likely future for industries in the lower
part of the ‘K’? 4점
① They can recover only with the help of industries in the upper part of the ‘K’.
② They also have a way to survive, but the author of the passage doesn’t mention what
it is.
③ Industries such as the travel, entertainment, and food services industries can recover only
with government assistance.
@ Many industries in the lower part of the ‘K’ will never recover.

Future pandemics will happen more often, kill more people, and wreak even worse damage
to the global economy than Covid-19 without a fundamental shift in how humans treat nature.
Warning that there are up to 850,000 viruses which, like the novel-coronavirus, exist in animals
and may be able to infect people, the panel known as IPBES said pandemics represented an
existential threat to humanity.
Authors of the ‘special report on biodiversity and pandemics’ said that habitat destruction and
insatiable consumption made animal-borne diseases far more likely to make the jump to people
in the future. There is no great mystery about the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic. The same
human activities that drive climate change and biodiversity loss also drive pandemic risk through
their impacts on our agriculture.
Covid-19 was the sixth pandemic since the influenza outbreak of 1918. All of these pandemics
have been entirely driven by human activities. These include unsustainable exploitation of the
environment through deforestation, agricultural expansion, wildlife trade, and consumption. All
of this exploitation puts humans in increasingly close contact with wild and farmed animals and
the diseases they harbor.
Seventy percent of emerging diseases such as Ebola, Zika, and HIV/AIDS are zoonotic in
origin, meaning they circulate in animals before jumping to humans. Around five new diseases
break out among humans every single year, anyone of which has the potential to become a pandemic.
32 Which is the best paraphrase to represent “an existential threat to humanity” in the
second sentence of this passage? 4점
33 According to the passage, which of the following is true about the COVID-19 pandemic?
4점
① Its cause and origin are not zoonotic unlike other diseases such as Ebola, Zika, and HIV/AIDS.
② It is rather unique so future pandemics similar to COVID-19 are unlikely.
③ The cause of COVID-19 is still unknown to scientists.
@ Its underlying causes are habitat destruction and insatiable consumption.
