 Development and context
The following dialogue takes place in a work
environment where the new member of the
company Milagros will meet her boss and
co-workers. This is her first day and she is
very happy and at the same time worried
because it is her first job and she wants to
learn a lot from her and make the most of it
in order to grow as a professional. Below is
the dialogue, we hope you like it.
Daniel: Good Morning Milagros, pleasure to see you again.
Milagros: Good Morning Daniel, the pleasure is mine. I'm very excited to be here
today!
Daniel: I can only say “Welcome aboard” . this will be your desk ,here could leave your
things and I will give you a tour of the office.
Milagros: This is my desk? It's so nice and big. For the first time I will have to worry
about bringing so many books with me. I can't wait to use it for the first time.
Daniel: I will also introduce you to the colleagues. Follow me. There are Susana, Luis,
Nicole and Moises. Guys, she is Milagros, our new team member that I talked about
yesterday
Susana: Nice to meet you Milagros! My name is Susana Huaroto. We have a really
cool, friendly team.
Luis: Nice to meet you dear Milagros, I introduce myself my name is Luis de la
Cruz.
Moises: Nice to meet you Milagros. My name is Moises. If I can be of any
assistance, please feel free to approach me.
Nicole: Nice to meet you Milagros. My name is Nicole Rojas. Welcome to our
work team.
Milagros: Nice to meet guys! I would like to know about you.
Susana: Of course! I from the sales department and I have been working here for 2
years. I studied administration, now I study Marketing twice a week. I like my job
and I am never stressed.
Luis: I've been working in the company for 13 years and I can assure you that this
space has allowed me to grow professionally. I focused on studying Economics and I
am currently working in the area of Potential Market Analysis for Companies. I am
happy to have you as a new colleague in this prestigious company. I am very happy
because the atmosphere here is very favourable for my work.
Nicole: I have been working in the company for 2 years. I studied Accounting and I
am in charge of the company's financial statements.
Moises: I have been working for 6 years in the finance area of this company, I
studied economics and I am happy here because it helps me to grow as a
professional.
Milagros: Wow, it's so cool. I hope you can help me integrate quickly into the team,
I'm counting on you!

Daniel: Let 's move on, Milagros. On your right you can see the
director’s office and the conference hall. On your left, there is a lounge.
Here your colleagues tend to relax.
Milagros: I will keep it in mind.
Daniel: Our IT department will give you a cell phone and a laptop so
you can work.
Susana: These equipment will help you to communicate with our
clients. For example, I have a cell phone that helps me call customers
and offer them our products. I also have a computer, to record orders.
Nicole: I use two cell phones, one is for the office and the other is for
personal use. In my office there is a printer, copier and scanner that we
share. I also had a shredder but it broke, I will get a new one in
November.
Moises: In my office are my work materials such as my telephone,
computer and desk that I use for consultations.
Luis: I have a desk with a lot of documents to analyze, I use my
laptop to do my work here, the company has just given me a new
printer because I use it very often in my work area.
Daniel: Milagros, your office is on the first floor, there is a printer,
computer .Soon, the props staff will bring your file cabinet so you can
keep everything organized.
Susana: My office is on the second floor, there is only one desk and
two chairs, one for me and one for the client or whoever wants to talk
to me. If you need anything, you use the elevator to go to my office.
Milagros: The printer and photocopier are in Nicole's office, Susana
is on the second floor, Moises uses the phone, and Luis has a new
printer. Got it, I will make sure to remember this new information.
Daniel: Milagros, work start time is at 8am. We are very rigorous in the time of entry,
please avoid being late .
Milagros: Don't worry, I will be there early every day. I live near here.
Susana: Luckily, I live near the office, I go to work by bicycle every day and I arrive
before 8 am.
Moisés: In my case, I use my dad's car twice a week to come to the office, I live two
hours from here.
Nicole: I live an hour away from the office and I should be early, but there is too much
traffic and I am always late.
Daniel: I forgot to inform you that lunch break is from 1 to 2 p.m. Actually, it’s about
to start.
Susana: I'm hungry. I'll order a hamburger. I sometimes eat fast food, but today I will
break the diet. What is your favorite food, Milagros?
Milagros: My favorite food is pasta; I love its thin and smooth texture; and yours
Moises?
Moises: My favorite food is the typical dishes of the Peruvian coast like red noodles.
What about you, Nicole?
Nicole: I always eat fast food, because I don't have enough time, but today I will order something
very delicious. And you, Luis?
Luis: I prefer to prepare something at home, I often get up to cook my own menu and take it to
work. Sometimes when I'm late I go to a restaurant where I know the staff and they give me a
very good menu and are very nice to me.
Milagros: This is so nice, I hope I can have lunch with you often now that I work here.
Daniel: Do you have anything to ask me, Milagros?
Milagros: Yes, you told me I’ll need a corporate email account for internal communication.
Daniel: I will ask John, our IT specialist, to set it up for you today. Well, it’s 1 p.m. already.
Enjoy your lunch break!
Susana: My favorite restaurant is near here, their food is delicious. Let's go!
Milagros: Seriously? if you say so the food must be too delicious; of course let's go.
Luis: Perfect, I am very hungry and thirsty, I have just finished half of my work so now I am
free for other activities.
Nicole: But we have a lot of work today.
Moíses: We'll do it later Nicole, let's go!
Susana: Yes, let 's go.
 PART 2

Today was a special day for Moises, it

happened to be his birthday and since he
came to work no one has greeted him.
Moises expected a greeting as he knew
that his friends knew that today was his
birthday. He thought that when he went to
lunch they would shout surprise but they
didn't, that's why he was crestfallen all
day.

Susana: The food was delicious.

Milagros: You were right, they cook very well in
that place. you look sad, Moisés. Is you something
wrong?
Nicole: I feel you're sad too, Moises.
Moises: Nothing's wrong, I just remembered
something.
Luis: Well, I hope it's nothing bad, my friend. Let's
hurry back, our lunch break is about to end.
 PART 3

Just when Moises was losing all

hope, the moment he entered the
office he noticed that everything was
ornate, the walls, the desks, the
logistics area, the reception area,
everything was very well presented.
Moises was amazed, he even felt like
crying with emotion.
Daniel: Moises, we haven't forgotten that today is your birthday. We
have prepared a small surprise for you!
Milagros: oh, Happy birthday, Moises!
Susana: Happy birthday, Moises! I brought cake for you.
Nicole: Happy birthday Moises! We have decorated your desk. Do you
like it?
Moises: Yes, I like it.
Luis: Happy birthday Moises! I bought you a briefcase for your
birthday.
Moises: Thank you very much for your greetings friends .
Susana: My birthday is in January, it's a long way off. I would like to go on a
trip, I should ask for a vacation.
Nicole: My birthday was July 15, that day I went shopping with my friends, I
had a great time. Actually we had planned to go to Ica but for work reasons it
was not possible.
Milagros: My birthday is in November, I plan to have a party with all of you.
Luis: I have a birthday in February, it's funny because it's the day before
Valentine's Day, so it's hard for you guys to forget. I would like to receive a
scholarship to MIT to network with students from the USA.
Daniel: Ok guys, we will celebrate Moises' birthday, but tomorrow I want all of
you to be early to continue with our work.. Remember that we have to finish our
sales plan for the national holidays.
Moises:Thank you very much boss, we will be early tomorrow. See you
tomorrow.
