Originality Guidelines

Context: Review the profile description and the content posted by the profile for the following
criteria to understand whether or not it is an original creator.

Process
1. Review the profile, especially the profile bio / description

95 n
2. Review the content below the profile
3. Conduct any side searches needed to determine whether account is a fan page /
e content aggregator, and whether the majority of the content is original
4. Select appropriate responses & submit job

Q1: Does the account self-identify as a fan page?

72 id
• Yes
• No
Fan pages are accounts on Instagram that are owned by fans of prominent figures that
primarily focus their account’s brand / content on promoting content representing positive
sentiment for that prominent figure. A prominent figure can include a celebrity, music group,
nf

politician, TV show, fictional character, etc.

• Signals to look for:
o Bio, user name, OR user handle directly says it is just a fan page and may link to
the official page of the celebrity/public figure/character. Examples:
▪ https://www.instagram.com/reel/CY4WjZWocek/
Co

▪ https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbc-HEDpR4W/
▪ https://www.instagram.com/p/CbaBRlFoo1i/
• NOTE: Fan pages are usually only created for well known figures, so if you use a search
engine to find this person and then you notice the Instagram account in question does
not have a blue check (verified) next to their name, it’s likely it’s a fan page instead of
the official page. Examples:
▪ https://www.instagram.com/reel/CZEmwInoW9C/
▪ https://www.instagram.com/p/CYegSskNIx8/
Q2. Does the account self-identify as a content aggregator?
• Yes
• No

6 l
A content aggregator is an account that curates content from different online sources (users,

52 tia
sites, etc.). Signals to look for:
• Bio, user name, content, OR user handle directly says intent to aggregate content (e.g.
DM for Credit, Submit to be Featured). Examples:
o https://www.instagram.com/reel/CYqOxsYJHs-/
o https://www.instagram.com/reel/CZPMY0Yhr8Q/
o https://www.instagram.com/reel/CYk8p9zhCsZ/
o https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbdp79pM_GY/

95 ne o https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbb_8qwu6nU/
• Bio, user name, OR user handle directly promises to post daily. Examples:
o https://www.instagram.com/instalovereels/
o https://www.instagram.com/oddlysatisfyingchannell/
o https://www.instagram.com/lcastic/
o https://www.instagram.com/yourfavoritehoops/

Q3. Are 75+% of account’s most recent posts unoriginal?
• Yes
• No
A major signal of unoriginality is the presence of attribution in either the post itself or in the
nf

caption.
1. Attribution words / phrases to look for in captions include (but aren’t limited to):
Credits, DM for Credit, Via, Video Creator Unknown, TikTok, Douyin, #reposts, By, and
emojis such as 📷 and 🎥
2. Captions with attribution words / phrases / emojis without explicit handles still count, as
this is the account declaring that the content does not belong to them
Co

3. Different types of attribution you’ll see include:

a. The post credits a different Instagram or non-Instagram account in the post
caption (e.g. Credit: [user handle], C: [user handle], Via: [user handle], Repost:
[user handle]).
b. The post quotes a different Instagram or non-Instagram account in the post
caption, AND the account quoted is NOT a collaborator nor part of the content
(e.g. TikTok: [user handle])
c. The post media (photos, videos) has watermarks mentioning a different user’s
handle, or is clearly a screenshot / screen recording of another user’s content
(e.g. showing another user’s profile, username or handle).
4. NOTE: If the account quoted is a collaborator OR part of the content, it should NOT be
considered unoriginal content. This is often common with lifestyle / fashion posts, but
generally, if @ tags are used to reference specific items or people within the post, this
would be a collaboration.
5. NOTE: If the media has a user’s handle in the watermark, but it represents the same
entity, it should NOT be considered unoriginal content. For example, an IG user posts a

6 l
video they created on TikTok, and the watermark user handle still reflects the same
entit.

Sometimes the post in question does not mention that the content was created by someone
else, but other recent posts do. Examples:

o https://www.instagram.com/p/CbdA7qCIChO/
Another signal to look out for is each recent post is not filmed by the same entity nor
about/featuring the entity or their work. For example, each recent post features a different
entity (person, animal, groups of people, completely different editing / storytelling personas,
Co

etc.). Examples:

Escalation Guidelines:

Immediate Escalation: If the content contains imagery or text/voice indicating or soliciting Child
Exploitation, Child Nudity or Human Trafficking, escalate the Job ID immediately to your
manager. Child Exploitive Imagery (CEI) refers to imagery (images, videos) depicting the sexual
exploitation of a child. Human Trafficking includes the recruiting, transporting, or harboring of
people by means of threat, coercion, or fraud for the purpose of exploitation. That exploitation
can come in many different forms, including sexual exploitation, forced slavery, slavery,
servitude, or the removal of organs. If you are not comfortable reviewing the content you can
skip the job after escalating. Vendor managers should use the Contact Form to route job ids

6 l
into CO Safety queues(CEI should never be screenshot or replicated in any way as it only further
exacerbates the issue. Please always look to use task/job number for issue identification.)
