I. True or False. Determine if the following statements are either true or false.

(2 points each)
1. The sum of all the probabilities of each event in the sample space is varied depending on the
conditions of the scenario.
2. The complement of an event has a higher probability than the event itself.
3. The standard normal curve contains the same values for the mean, median, and mode.
4. The random scenario 𝑋 of tossing an 𝑛 number of coins has a sample size equal to 2𝑛.
5. The distribution of a random samples, such as the height of students, approach normal
distribution as more samples is obtained.

II. Problem-Solving. Solve the following problems.

Item 1. Suppose we have a random scenario of rolling 6 crooked coins with 60% chance of getting a
head and 40% chance getting tails and a random event 𝐻 as getting an 𝑛 number of heads. Find the
following:

a. Number of elements in sample space – 1 point

b. The range of 𝐻 – 1 point
c. 𝑃𝐻 (ℎ𝑥 ) – 1 point each
d. Probability of getting at least 3 heads – 2 points

Total = 11 points

Item 2. A random scenario 𝑃 of drawing one card each from two standard 52-card decks was observed.
If we have a random scenario 𝑇 as getting an 𝑛 number of club cards and 𝐾 as getting 𝑛 red face cards,
find the following:

a. Number of elements in sample space – 1 point

b. 𝑅𝑇 and 𝑅𝐻 – 1 point each
c. 𝑃𝑇 (𝑡𝑥 ) – 1.5 points each
d. 𝑃𝐾 (𝑘𝑥 ) – 1.5 points each
e. Probability of getting one club card and one red face card – 2 points

Total = 14 points

Item 3. A college with 1000 students performed a mathematics diagnostics test to determine the best
students which resulted to test score mean of 78 out of 100 points and a standard deviation of 3.21.
Suppose the school wants to get the top 10% for further tests, how many students will pass the criteria?

(1 point for getting the z-score, 2 points for finding the passing score, 2 points for the final answer in
sentence form)

Total = 5 points

2. 𝑧(20) = 1.10, 𝜇 = 13, find 𝜎 (1 point)
3. 𝜇 = 13, 𝜎 = 2.01, find 𝑧(12) (1 point) and 𝑃(𝑥 < 12) or the probability of having a score less
than 12. (2 points)
4. 𝜇 = 30, 𝑧(31) = 0.65; find 𝜎 (1 point), 𝑧(32) (1 point) and 𝑃(𝑥 > 32) or the probability of
having a score greater than 32 (3 points)
