ESSAY: Why do some countries become rich while others remain poor? Apply Andre
Gunder Frank’s Dependency Theory or Immanuel Wallerstein’s Core-Periphery Model
to support your answer. (30 points)

The Core-Periphery Model is a framework for understanding economic growth. Wallerstein classifies the world's
areas as either "core" or "periphery" in his model. Countries with advanced economies, industrialization, and political
systems make up the core. Countries on the periphery suffer from extreme poverty and have great difficulty progressing.

It all relies on the development of each country as to why some countries become rich while others remain poor.
For instance, a country will be considered peripheral if its growth slows behind its borders. Therefore, a country will stay
on the periphery indefinitely if it does not invest in its population or economy. Suppose a country has more money than
the countries around it. In that case, that country will also become richer than its neighbors and eventually join the core
group of countries like America or England. Some nations cannot pull themselves out of poverty because they do not invest
their money nearly as aggressively as wealthier nations. They may have less money, but there are fewer individuals to put
that money into education and better living conditions, so they don't progress as quickly as those with greater resources.
