CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate understanding of the range of research topics in the area of interest
Just like what was being emphasized in Practical Research 1, the background of the study presents the
reason why a researcher would embarked with a study. Several references might say that the background
of the study can be written in different styles and format but for starters like you, the format below can
be utilized.

a. Identify and describe some important variables in your research.

b. Discuss the important role of the variables to your own research by giving cited
definitions of the said variables.
c. Present situations similar to your study from international (at least 3 to 4 similar
situations). Let say for example, your research is about the proficiency level of
students with remedial reading classes at Baliwasan Senior High School, you can
provide similar situations by searching “Study on Proficiency Level of Students
with Remedial Classes in the United States of America”. Look over the results.
Read and examine every article you encounter then select information which you
can use in your background of the study. You can include statistics results, findings
and other essential information.
d. Do the same in searching similar studies or situations from the Philippines. You
can search for at least two Philippine situations.
e. Do not forget to synthesize and paraphrase the information you get form the
internet. Do proper citation and referencing.
f. Given the situations you have presented, discuss the problem which need to be
addressed.
g. Specify the setting where you will conduct your study and mention your
observations within the setting where you are conducting the research in
connection to your research.

Give the reasons why you embarked with the study by explaining the purpose, the dilemma and
the goal you want to achieve in your research.
