1. Introduction and overview of manufacturing
2. Fundamentals of metal casting: solidification, metallurgical principles, fluid
flow and heat treatment
3. Metal casting processes: sand, investment, centrifugal, die, pressure, semi-
solid casting. Casting design, materials, and economics
4. Fundamentals of forming processes. Bulk-deformation processes: Rolling
5. Bulk-deformation processes: Forging
6. Bulk-deformation processes: Extrusion and drawing
7. Sheet metal forming processes: Cutting and bending
8. MIDTERM EXAM

NOTE: No matter what your letter grade is, the Final Exam score must be at least
“20” to pass the class. Otherwise, you have to take the Resit Exam.

Attendance 70% minimum

1. To introduce traditional and modern manufacturing methods. To focus on


special technologies such as casting, joining, powder metallurgy, plastic,
ceramic, glass, and composite materials production technologies
Course Objectives 2. To teach basic principles, necessary technical equipment, and application
areas of manufacturing processes.
3. To instruct basic calculation methodology in manufacturing processes

1. Describe principles of manufacturing technologies and application areas


2. Explaining the comparative advantages, limitations, and application areas of
manufacturing methods
3. Describe the equipment used in manufacturing technologies
Course Outcomes 4. Select suitable manufacturing methods for given part geometry and
materials
5. Determine/select and calculate process parameters in a given
manufacturing process

1. “Online Yildiz” system will be used to share document, assign homework, and
collect digital file if it is requested. It is your responsibility to follow it.
2. When necessary, the announcements will be made through OBS, which sends a
mail to your mail account. You must check your e-mails daily in case of an
emergency. The fact that you have not seen the announcement will not be
accepted as an excuse.
Warnings 3. For communication, you must only use your student mail account provided by the
university and my e-mail address “kmdogan@yildiz.edu.tr”. E-mails sent through
other providers (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) will not be responded to.
4. Collaboratively made HomeWorks will not be accepted. All the HomeWorks must
be prepared individually. Legal sanctions will be applied in case of submission of
the same assignment by different students, or high similarity in unusual mistakes

between handed documents. Note that you are prohibited from sharing your
homework with others; so, if your homework is submitted by others, you will be
penalized as well.
5. Homework is collected in the classroom, on Friday, before the lecture starts.
Late delivered homework will not be evaluated.
