Directions: Answer the following questions briefly.

1. What is Philosophy, and what does it have to do with you as a future


teacher/professional?
Philosophy is a way that seeks to understand fundamental truths about a person, the
world in which they live, and their relationships to the world and to each other. Philosophy is a
part of my journey in becoming a professional in the future as it helps me in opening my mind to
new things, as well as appreciating the things that I currently experience. It also gives me a better
view on situations and helps to develop my decision-making skills.

2. What are the three branches of Philosophy?


The three branches of Philosophy are Epistemology, Metaphysics and Axiology.

3. What is Epistemology?
Epistemology is a branch of philosophy wherein it concerns the nature, origin, and
limitations of a human knowledge. It is also referred to as the Theory of Knowledge as it came
from the Greek words “episteme” meaning knowledge, and “logos” meaning reason.

4. Define  Metaphysics.
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy wherein it examines the fundamental nature of
reality that includes the relationship between the mind and matter, substance and attribute, as
well as potentiality and actuality. This also deals with the first principles of things– abstract
concepts such as being, knowing, substance, etc.

5. Discuss what is Axiology?


Axiology is a branch of philosophy wherein it came from the Greek words “axios”
meaning worthy, and “logos” science. It is also called the Theory of Value as it is the study of
goodness or value that includes questions about the nature and classification of values and what
things have value.

6. Discuss the Philosophy of Religion


Philosophy of Religion is the examination of the central themes and concepts involved in
religious traditions. It is the branch of philosophy concerned with the philosophical study of
religion that includes arguments over the nature and existence of God, religious language,
miracles, prayer, the problem of evil, and the relationship between religion and other value-
systems such as science and ethics.

7. Explain the Philosophy of Science


Philosophy of Science is concerned with all the assumptions, foundations, methods,
implications of science, and with the use and merit of science. The main questions of this branch
examine what qualifies as science, the reliability of scientific theories, and the ultimate purpose
of science.
8. Enumerate the importance of studying Philosophy.
 Philosophy enables us to think about important issues carefully and clearly.
 This helps in learning how to take a step back from normal thinking and explore deeper,
bigger questions that proves our thought.
 This shows us not what to believe but how to think.
 It sharpens our analytical abilities, enables us to identify and evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses in any situation.
 It hones our ability to construct and articulate cogent arguments of one's self.
 Philosophy exposes us to different ways of thinking about even very familiar concepts, in
part by carefully engaging the history of thought.
 It opens our minds to better understand the different aspects and point of views.
