Easter Island is known for its mysterious statues carved in various shapes like – head-and-
torso figures etc. They are about 4 meters tall, and their average weight is no less than 14
thousand kilograms. It’s still a mystery why the Rapa Nui people undertook such a complex
task. Many historians believe that the people created the statues to welcome important
personages. It has been estimated that the island was first settled between 800 to 1200 CE.
The island has no less than 400 statues all around the place, and it has been noticed that
many states are deteriorating rapidly. Therefore, intensive conservation efforts are needed to
preserve these precious statues and restore their beauty.
