• The National Commission for Minorities was set up by the

set up and five religious communities viz the
Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and
Zoroastrians (Parsis) were notified as minority
communities.
• In 2014, Jains were also notified as a minority
community.
• NCM consists of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson
and five members and all of them shall be from
amongst the minority communities.
• Total of 7 persons to be nominated by the Central
Government Tenure: Each Member holds office for a
period of three years from the date of assumption of
office.

• “Alliance Air is the first airline to embark upon the journey of operating
the made-in-India aircraft and contributing towards Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative,” he said.

• Alliance Air’s coordinator (east) Chirasree Sanyal said the airline had been
tasked with offering better connectivity for Tier-2 and Tier-3 towns with
their closest city hubs with the vision of “connecting new India”.

• The route linking Dibrugarh with Pasighat and Lilabari (Assam) will see
operations twice a week from April 18.
 Manufacture of Apple’s iPhone 13 begins in
India at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu
• The phone is produced at a local plant of contract
manufacturer Foxconn, situated in the town of
Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu, Reuters reported.

• The smartphone is currently priced at ₹79,900 with

128GB storage and ₹89,900 with 256GB storage. It is
unsure if the local production would bring down the
price of the iPhone 13 in India.

• This is the fourth model to be locally produced by

Apple. The company first launched the
manufacturing operations of the iPhone SE in the
country in 2017.

Nadu takes men’s crown, Railways win women’s title

The Tamil Nadu men’s team has been very

effective in the Senior National basketball
championships here. On Sunday, in front of a
boisterous and supportive crowd, the host
outplayed Punjab 87-69 in the final for its 10th
title.

As expected, Indian Railways proved its

dominance in no uncertain terms, defeating
Telangana 131-82 for its 31st women’s title.
 Neptune Cruise Missile
• This missile system has been developed to destroy
transport vessels and surface warships.
• This missile system entered the service of the Ukrainian
Navy in March 2021.
• On 13th April 2022, the Russian cruiser Moskva was hit by
two Neptune missiles during the Russian invasion of
Ukraine.
• In March 2016, the first test of this missile system was
conducted. In mid-2017, the Neptune missiles were tested
along with the Vilkha missiles. In January 2018, the first
successful flight test of this missile was conducted. In 2018,
the missile successfully hit a target that was placed at a
range of 100 kilometres.
IMD’s First Long-Range Forecast
• The long-range forecast of IMD is issued in two stages.
• The first forecast is released in the month of April.
• The second forecast is issued at the end of May.
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD has issued a long-range forecast for the southwest
monsoon season rainfall during the period June to September. The prediction has stated that
rainfall will be normal this year.
• In the country, for the period 1971 to 2020, the long period average seasonal rainfall is 87 cm.
• According to the forecast that has been released, in the country, the southwest monsoon
seasonal rainfall will likely be normal i.e. 96 to 104 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA).
According to this year’s monsoon forecast, Kerala, Tamil Nadu (except its southernmost areas),
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand,
Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan (except northern areas), Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand,
Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Sikkim are expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall.
J&K, Haryana and the rest of the North-East are likely to receive below normal rainfall.
