1.0 GENERAL
1.1 DESCRIPTION
The scope of works includes the supply and installation of a proprietary system of A)
12mm thick calcium silicate board ceiling (CSB) and B) Ceiling Access Panels
as shown on the drawings.
The ceiling works shall include everything necessary for and incidental to the
execution and completion of the ceiling system as shown in the drawings and
specified herein, and reference to the Bills of quantities and contract documents in
general.
1.2 STANDARDS
Calcium Silicate Board ceiling is to be tested for ignitability and fire propagation in
accordance with BS 476: part 6, and for flame spread in accordance with part 7, to
achieve Class 1, or equivalent proposed by the Contractor subject to approval .
1.3 SUBMITTALS
1. Shop Drawings
2. Coordination Drawings
The Contractor shall provide service co-ordination drawings and ceiling co-
ordination drawings for approval. No work shall be carried out until the approval is
given.
3. Samples
Samples of the type of ceiling and the colour of the panels are to be submitted for
approval with no claim for additional cost or time to be incurred in doing so.
Subsequent material delivered to site is to be equal to the samples approved.
4. Structural Calculations
For details and structural calculations of the ceiling support systems a PE engaged
by the Contractor is to endorse all design calculations submitted.
5. Test Reports
Reports of tests carried out by accredited laboratory are to also be submitted.
6. As-Built Drawings
Submit As-Built Drawings upon completion and hand over of the system.

SECTION 092813 CALCIUM SILICATE BOARD
c) Fire performance
The board should have some fire performance. It should generate minimal
levels of smoke or toxic gases in a fire.
d) Moisture tolerance
The board must have moisture tolerance and not deteriorate in wet or humid
conditions, even when used in applications where it is continuously exposed
at atmospheric moisture.
e) Resistance to chemical
The board must have resistance to dilute chemicals such as brine, bleaches
and chlorine solutions in order that it can withstand industrial cleaning
agents.
f) Dimensional stability
g) Alkalinity
h) Biological
i) Ease of use
j) Compatibility
The board must be compatible with all common building materials, be non-
caustic and not promote corrosion.

l) Fire performance
m) Building Regulations
The board must be approved for use in areas where ceilings or partitions
having a surface flame spread rating of class O or lower is required, or
proposed by Contractor subject to approval.
1. Proprietary ceiling access panels for Calcium Silicate Board ceiling shall be
provided at the following locations:
b) At the locations where there are sprinkler drain valves, VAV boxes;
2. The ceiling access panels shall not be less than 600x600mm in size and
integrated visually with the ceiling system.
4. Where steel are used for the supports, they shall be of galvanized steel.
5. The ceiling access panels shall be provided with locksets complete with keys
and concealed hinges. No access panel shall be allowed to drop freely when
opened. A total of 10 keys with stainless steel key tags for every key shall be
provided.

2.0 PRODUCTS
3.0 EXECUTION
1. Installation
a) The installation of the ceiling works is to be carried out in strict compliance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations.
c) The ceiling shall have its own supporting system and shall consist of suspension rods
of 9mm diameter minimum in galvanised steel of hangers of 50 x 50mm galvanised
channels, anchorages and levelling devices, runners, couplings and clips, wall
mouldings, joint trimming and other accessories necessary for suspending from the
structural ceiling, making levelling adjustment and the proper assembling of the
ceiling sytem.
d) The suspension system shall be designed to carry the total load of the ceiling and
constructed of 38mm x 38mm x 0.91mm steel main tee spanning at maximum
600mm centres. Similarly, the cross tee of the same guage shall be spanned at the
maximum of 1200mm centres.
e) The 12mm thick calcium silicate board shall be fixed onto the suspension system with
15mm x no 6 self tapping screws at 300mm centres on main tees and 600mm
centres on cross tees.
f) The angle hanger support shall be suspended from the secondary grid system using
9mm diameter galvanised steel suspension rods looped around the ceiling
secondary grid and secured with bolts and nuts.
g) The calcium silicate board shall be waterproofed complying with the following:
i) A layer of approved thin coat expanded metal mesh wing angle bed shall be
installed at all the external corners of the boards up to 100mm above ceiling
level for edge protection.
ii) The calcium silicate boards shall have a minimum 30mm width tapered edge
along the sheet supplied as standard from the factory.
iii) The calcium silicate board shall be prepared for plastering, for filling the joints
with finishing plaster and pressing into the plaster dry reinforcing perforate
jute scrim cloth 50mm wide, trowelled smooth and flush with the boards.
Linen gauze or self-adhesive fibreglass tapes shall not be used.
