Shandalle

City of Jurene – Capital of Shandalle

A. Palace
B. Inner City Gates
C. Town Plaza and Street Theatre
D. Eastern Gate
E. Southern Gate
F. North Western Gate
G. South Western Gate

Note: The roads at F and G lead north and south

respectively along the near side of the river. There is
no bridge crossing the river at this point though there
are docks.

Between the roads at F and G, leading down to the

rivers edge, is a near permanent tent and caravan
camp for merchants who ply their trade along the river
and at the capital. This area is administered by Nerrim
Penman, Master of the Docks.
Noble Family North (Sendar)
Have semi-fortified townhouse at northern border. They are responsible for taxing the trade along the route
between the City of Cairhien and Tar Valon and passing this to the capital. This tax makes the family somewhat
richer than their status as the smallest landholders of the nation might otherwise suggest.

Jailin Melere (Male Ruler of House Melere)

Hanith Melere (Wife to Jailin and Lady of the House)
Silyar Melere (Heir, Eldest Son)
Tuene Penman Melere (Married Daughter, Middle Child)
Nerrim Penman (Son-in-law – Master of the Docks in Jurene)
Berean Melere (Son and Youngest Child – Officer/Captain in Army)

Noble Family West (Hamalle)

Control agriculture in the central and northern unforested lands of the nation though the City of Sierra is an
independent city with it’s own ruling council and not formally part of this Duchy. Not counting the Cities of Jurene
and Sierra at least half of the nations free folk reside within this domain. The Layden family keep a hunting lodge at
Bleatarn on a small demi-island reachable by a narrow causeway.

Comar Layden (Male Ruler of House Layden)

Vela Layden (Wife to Comar and Lady of the House)
Zoryel Layden (Son and Eldest Child)
Alayne Layden (Daughter and Heir)

Noble Family East (Jural Keep)

The trade is monitored (but not taxed) here in the Keep that lies closely across the river from Cairhien. Guards and
Mercenaries are limited in numbers and the latter questioned closely and encouraged not to linger within the nation.
Gaidren and his heir man the Keep with the widowers two younger sons managing watchtowers approximately half
a day and a days riding along the rivers edge respectively. These fortifications are funded directly by the capital.

Gaidren Damolin (Widower – but young enough to remarry)

Toril Damolin (Eldest Son and Heir)
Elan Damolin (Middle Son)
Garan Damolin (Youngest Son)

Southern Count and Countess (Jurene/Darval)

Although they are seated within the capital the Countess and her partner mostly rule the southern lands and mines
to the south east outside of Jurene. The City is the Domain of the King though the Mayor and an appointed council
of folk with interests in it largely administer it. Darval is the town at the base of the hills that are mined though is
rarely if ever visited directly by the Count and Countess.

Tigraine al’Deran (Female Ruler of House al’Deran)

Aris al'Deran (Merchant and Second Husband of Tigraine)
Fernya al’Deran (Daughter and Eldest Child)
Alyana al’Deran (Youngest Daughter and Middle Child)
Korin al’Deran (Eldest son and Heir – Youngest Child)
Sierra
Sierra is the only major city in Shandalle other than the capital Jurene which is held directly by the King. As such it is
judged too much of a resource to place in the hands of any single noble family and though it lies on the northern
edge of the Duchy of Layden it is an independent entity answerable only to the King. The town is governed by a City
Council and a “Jarl” (currently Julian Velind). This is a life appointment though not hereditary. Militarily a moderate
garrison is held here under the command of the Vice Marshall of the Realm though this seat is currently vacant due
to the recent plague. The Rivierra Bridge (similar to the one located within Whitebridge) may date from the Age of
Legends though is functional in appearance. The bridge crosses over into the foreign nation of Caembarin.

There is a small Ogier clan within the south eastern portion of the city that tend the scenic Golden Garden park area
[replace references to Halfling District with Ogier District]. Tuatha’an often visit and camp near the Ogier.
