Title: “EVERY CHILD A READER”

Location: Mahayahay Integrated School, Mahayahay, Manticao, Misamis Oriental

Project Beneficiaries: Grade 4 – Mabigel learners

I. Rationale

Based on the result of the diagnostic test on word recognition and comprehension of

learners, majority of the learners manifested difficulty not much in word recognition but

more in comprehension. They can read but don’t find meaning in what they are reading.

In order to help the teacher stimulate their learners’ interest in reading the teacher must

be equipped with knowledge on the significance of reading in life of every learner with

teaching strategies to make reading an enjoyable classroom activity.

Pupils must be aided not only to sound out words but to understand them. They must

be provided with varied developmental reading activities to find the significance of reading

ability in their life.

Remedial Reading Program Staff

A. Administrative Staff

1. District Supervisor:
a. Supports and assist the school administrator in implementing the reading
program and assist the teacher with the instructions.

2. Principal/School Head
a. Sits together with the staff to plan reading program, assist the teacher with the
instructions and monitor the implementation.

3. Reading Coordinator
a. Assists in the reading instruction and help plan for the program.

B. Regular Staff
1. Reading Teacher
- Diagnose learner’s reading skills suited in their level and
- Provides instruction at appropriate level of difficulty.

C. Out of School Staff


1. Parents
- Give inputs in the process of the program and helps encourage pupils in
outside reading like:
FVR – Free Voluntary Reading
USSR – Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading
DEAR – Drop Everything and Read

III. Objectives

1. To make each child an independent reader.


2. To read with recognition and comprehension.
3. To develop love and interest in reading among learners.

IV. Project Description

This program is intended for the pupils to start building sight vocabulary and to
enhance the teaching competence of teachers to develop the phonetic and comprehension
skills of learners for effectiveness reading.
