China and USA are destined for rivalry

The most common cause of rivalry between China and USA can be their ideological point of
views. USA promotes democracy whereas China under the rule a of Communist party promotes
autocracy. Taiwan is an other root cause of rivalry between USA and China. Taiwan is bone
contention between the both USA and China , same as Kashmir being a disputed territory
between India-Pak. USA considers Taiwan an independent state whereas China considers
Taiwan one of it’s own territory. Since the fall of U.S.S.R resulting in unipolar world system,
USA being the only super power for decades the emergence of China both economically and
politically is a rising tension for USA.

Is emerging China a threat for USA

More likely Yes, China is making fast progress within its economy, its military and also
emerging as a great political power in world giving USA a tough competition.

China’s growing economic interdependence

China with its Belt and Route initiative is dominating the Global trade. The BRI based on old
silk route connect Asia, Africa, Europe and Middle east to China. Countries Such as Sri Lanka
and Pakistan within South Asia to get Goods in and out of China through new routes. This plan
confirms China’s role as a Global power, leaving USA with its allies worried. As a response
USA and its Allies have come up with their own Plan such as B3W (build back better world)
which emphasizes on Good Governance and environment.
Moreover China’s growing interest to invest in many infrastructure in developing countries is
also raising concerns for USA. As many past allies of USA are becoming dominant allies of
China now. Among China’s successful projects include Gwadar Port in Pakistan, Chittagong
Port in Bangladesh, Chinese military base in Djibouti in Africa and many others

Promotion of Liberalism
China’s initiative to build it’s economy promotes liberalist point of view as economic
interdependence reduces chances of war and states that work together grow together.

China’s Military rise

The strength of a nation’s economy is defined by how much it spends on it’s military. As China
has outshined in the world regarding economy this has provided it a way to build one of the
powerful military in the world
China is making rapid increase in it’s military under the communist rule in order establish
China’s role as a super power. China with it’s 250+ nuclear warheads and its increasing progress
within military technology has made China emerged as sole military power within South Asian
region. It is thought that within the next 30 years China’s military will emerge more powerful,
efficient and technologically advanced, Ultimately becoming great power rival to USA.

Indo – Pacific region

China has great geographical importance, with its presence near the Indo Pacific region which is
the busiest Sea route for trade. China through establishment of artificial islands in South China
Sea is increasing it’s military. This has been alarming for the USA as many crucial US military
bases are present in states located in Indo Pacific, and it is very easy for China to attack them.

Promotion of Realism
China’s efforts to modernize its military promotes Realist point of view to gain power in order to
compete with other states. As USA military bases are all around the world China wants to have
its military at Frontline in South China Sea in order to prevent any future intervention by USA.

China and it’s allies

Among the two most notable allies of China that are great threat for the USA are Russia and
North Korea. Both Russia and North Korea have been isolated by the USA but their emerging
economic and political ties with China pose a great threat to USA and it’s allies. Russia is
promoting its trade with China whereas North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-un has great support
of China.

China dominating in Tech race

By Khizra Rashad

China is not only emerging as a military, economic and political power but also as a super power
in regards of technology as well. Its ongoing progress within Artificial Intelligence and its cyber
capabilities China has raised concern for USA. China is making big investments in technical
infrastructure, and is leading tech power in world. Huawei a leading smartphone brand of China
has been banned by the USA, as for USA it is a threat to its national security.

Chances of war between China and USA

The chances for both the countries to go on war are very less as economic interdependence,
geopolitical factors and nuclear possession play there role to prevent any war.

Economic interdependence
USA and China are great trade partners and any confrontation between them can damage their
economy. Such as presence of cheap labour in China makes USA to assemble its products in
China.

Geopolitical factor
USA and China are located far from each other with Pacific ocean between them. This vast
geography also prevents both the countries to attack each other. Moreover presence of South
Korea, Japan and Taiwan next to China also prevents USA to take any action as theses countries
are allies of USA.

Nuclear possession
As both USA and China are nuclear powers, the chances for them to go on war against each
others become more less as the world is aware of the mass destruction that can be caused by
nuclear weaponry.

Idealist theory:

It is said that China may be the next super power of the world because China
is rapidly growing and uprising in economic and political sectors which has
given the country renewed standings in the international community,
according to a report in national interest, china will dethrone the US and tear
apart the rules based international system of America and its allies since had
made by the end of ww2. China also has a large economy with a GDP of
$14.3T.

Conclusion:

The most important developments in the 21st century is of China’s rise as a

leading world power. China transformed itself through its world economy
and reform policy since 1970s. In the last three decades, China has achieved
unprecedented economic success. It is already considered as the major
economic power but still not a super power. It is still a developing and
emerging country. China has to overcome many severe pitfalls to become a
dominant player in international economic sector on a sustained basis.
