Thevenin equivalent of a circuit greatly simplifies and reduces analysis time for different load resistances.
When all remaining resistors and supply voltage remain same, calculations can be simplified for any change
in load resistor.

The voltages measured in Table 12-2 and table 12-3 are similar. It is much easier to calculate the voltage drops
for different load resistors using the Thevenin equivalents.
The complex circuit was reduced to a simple equivalent circuit with Vth and Rth.

Load current when load resistor for circuit in Fig 12-3 is replaced by short is = 9.5025 mA
For Thevenin equivalent circuit, the resulting current when load is replaced with a short is 9.496 mA
Thevenin theorem offers the advantage of reducing the computational and analysis process
for any change in the load resistor keeping rest of the resistors constant.

When computing the Rth,

Source Voltage is shorted.
In this circuit, when Vs is shorted,
it is parallel to R1.
R1 parallel to a short (0Ω) results to 0Ω.
Hence R1 can be eliminated.
