DIRECTION: In your words please explain the mandate and functions of following
important government departments and give one (1) example of an agency that they
supervise. Before you begin writing, please plan what you will say. Your essay should be

1. Department of Justice (DOJ) - The Department of Justice's (DOJ) primary


objective is to provide insurance and welfare to our country's inmates although
they have criminal liability to our country, we should take care of them to make
sure that he/she realizes to change his whole personality.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is supervised by the Bureau of Corrections


(BUCOR), which oversees and manages the National Prison and Penal Farms, is in
charge of rehabilitation and reform programs for national inmates, preparing
them to rejoin society after serving their term. Furthermore, those who have a
criminal liability that goes to BUCOR are under the sentence of three (3) years
and one (1) above.

The BUCOR has a (7) penal farms which are New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City,
Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, Iwahig Prison and Penal
Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in
Occidental Mindoro, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City
,Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte, and lastly Davao Prison and Penal Farm
in Panabo, Davao.

The importance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) is that they are making sure
of the conditions and treatment of our inmates even though they have orders to
have them penalized they are insured for their sustainability from clothes,
workplace and visitation of the family.

2. Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) - It is more different than


the DOJ because Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)
Municipal, city, and district jails are managed by the DILG. The provincial local
government entities, who are overseen and managed by the individual
governors of each province, run the provincial and sub provincial jails, where the
maximum sentence is three years and six months.

The importance of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is to


supervise municipal, city and district jails. In his primary responsibility and
importance to our country is to covered the inmates with the secured our
inmates that has maximum sentence to our country.
