Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to

• define the ovarian cycle, the menstrual (uterine) cycle
and menstruation, the female reproductive cycle, and
hormones
• describe the phases of the menstrual cycle and what
occurs in each phase
• explain how fertilization and implantation occur and
when during the menstrual cycle a woman can become
MENSTRUAL CYCLE AND pregnant.
CONTRACEPTION • explain how menstrual cycle determines the choice of
contraception
