Ovulation and fertilization
In the female, one of the ovaries produces an egg every
28 days. This is called ovulation.
During sexual intercourse millions of sperm are ejaculated
into the vagina.
If a sperm meets the egg, the sperm’s nucleus can join with
the egg’s nucleus.
This fusing of the nuclei is called fertilization.

Fertilisation Journey

To do for today:
• I would like you to:
• 1. Read pg. 59 in the coursebook
• 2. Draw a labelled diagram in your notebook showing what happens when
an egg is NOT fertalised
• 3. Explain the 4 steps involved
• 4. Send me your diagrams/explanations by email or edmodo! (A picture is
OK if you want to work in your notebook)

Then answer these questions:
- - Why does the uterus lining start to grow thick and spongy as an egg cell develops in an ovary?
- - What happens to the uterus lining if the egg cell is not fertalised?
- - How often does an egg cell leave an ovary in an adult woman?
- - How often does mentruation happen in an adult woman?

Finally: If you didn´t finish/send me your work from yesterday, please do so!
